Travel to the land of the Pharaohs with On The Go Tours

Home to one of the world’s first great civilisations and more ancient wonders than you can shake a stick at, Egypt needs little introduction. With world famous pyramids, tomb strewn Valley of the Kings and the mighty temples of Abu Simbel, Egypt has attracted travellers since classical times. But there's more to Egypt than pharaohs, mummies and hieroglyphics. Take a luxury cruise or sail aboard a felucca on the longest river in the world - the Nile, or experience world class diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea.

Egypt tour reviews

I just did the King Ramses Tour in April 2016. It was the most incredible trip, better than I could have ever imagined! I have always wanted to go see the pyramids and all the beautiful things Egypt has to offer. Our tour guide Alam was the best! He was very knowledgeable in Egyptian history and answered all of our questions. He also, always made sure everyone was having a great time and made us feel welcome and like part of the family. I went alone and met with the group in Cairo. I want to assure everyone that Egypt is very safe and not once during the entire trip did I feel unsafe. Egypt is so beautiful and if it is on your list of places to go than you definitely should go! We visited the pyramids, many temples, sailed on the Nile River, and got to relax for a few days at the Red Sea (Does it get any better than this?) On The Go Tours and everyone that worked for them were just incredible, kind, organized, helpful and took care of everything, from arriving at the airport, during the entire trip, and getting back to the airport, they didn’t miss any details! Alam, I want to thank you once again for an outstanding trip, your expertise, respect and love of everything and everyone! ”

I really enjoyed the tour. Naturally, having a fantastic group didn't hurt! I thought the itinerary was very comprehensive and Saleeb was very knowledgeable. I was especially impressed with Luxor! The food on the cruise was terrific as well. Just an overall terrific overview for the 10-day vacation.”

Awesome tour overall. A swift but, thorough review of the incredible history of this area. There's so much to see and learn about, it would almost be nice to slow it down a bit, maybe add an extra night in Luxor. It was amazing to see so many monuments first hand. And, even tho I'm not much for roughing it, the felucca was a great experience. And, the crew made some of the best food we ate throughout the trip.

'Momo' took great care of us, whatever we needed. He went out of his way to organize dinners in the cities, which made it easier for us to just relax and take in the experience. Having our evenings sorted by our guide is something I've become accustomed to on past tours and, I really prefer this (especially in a foreign country like Egypt). Every day that we had activities, he gave us a rundown of the day. There were a couple times where a bit more detail would have been nice. He also tried to be accommodating when requests were made. And, he was very passionate when giving us a review of the history at each site. You can just tell this is what he was meant to do. He was so professional during the day he almost seemed a bit serious at first. But, it was nice to see him relax a bit in the evenings.

When I decided to extend my tour at the last minute, Momo sorted everything so quickly.

And, our group was pretty diverse in age, which was kind of nice. Many with so much travel experience. It was great to share these experiences.

I'd do it all again for sure! Thank you.”

With so many ancient wonders to choose from putting together a wish-list of Egypt's sites can be slightly overwhelming so to help we've put together a selection of the best with a bit of beach and river cruising thrown in for a little variety.

Cairo - Pyramids and Treasures

The Pyramids | Giza | Egypt

The capital of Cairo is a fascinating introduction to modern Egypt with plenty of world-class sights. The Pyramids of Giza need little introduction as the oldest and last standing Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. If you want to see some of the priceless treasures once enclosed in pharaoh's tombs, then the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is the place to go with mummies too.

Hurghada - Red Sea Relaxation

By the beach in Hurghada | Egypt

What better way to top off your time in Egypt than by the sea, soaking up the sun on a sandy beach. Once a small fishing town, the now popular Red Sea resort of Hurghada is the perfect place to while away the days with excellent snorkeling opportunities around the colourful coral reefs just offshore. It's also a great place to try windsurfing and kiteboarding with reliable winds year-round.

Abu Simbel - Iconic Temples

Arguably one of the most impressive ancient sites in Egypt, the two rock temples of Abu Simbel were constructed in dedicated to King Ramses II and are an incredible sight to behold. Marvel at the four colossal statues guarding the entrance of the Great Temple and wander inside its central hall, small chambers and sanctuary, all decorated with hieroglyphics and deity depictions.

Aswan - Nubian City

Aswan Highlight

Situated on the banks of the River Nile, the Nubian city of Aswan enjoys a scenic setting across from the granite-clad Elephantine Island in the south of Egypt. Here you can stroll along the broad Corniche, shop to your heart's content in the bustling souks, dine in floating restaurants, visit the impressive High Dam and explore the ancient Philae Temple on Agilika Island.

Luxor - The Valley of the Kings

Queen Hatshepsut Temple | Luxor | Egypt

A vast necropolis where elaborate royal tombs mark the burial ground of pharaohs from the New Kingdom, you won’t want to miss the Valley of the Kings on your trip to Egypt and Luxor. Wander down into these underground tombs, once decorated with priceless treasures that the pharaoh would have required in the afterlife, and colourful hieroglyphics on the tomb walls.

Nile Cruising - Historic Waterway

Traditional felucca boat | Egypt

With the sun on your face and wind in your hair cruising down the Nile in a traditional felucca sail boat surely is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city and dusty temple complexes. Spend two nights plying the course of the Nile, top up on your tan, dance around beachside bonfires and fall asleep under a blanket of stars or opt for a luxury cruise with all mod-cons.

Egypt Travel Advice:

We keep abreast of the latest travel advice to Egypt and follow advice as set out by the British Foreign Office. Please be assured that safety of our travellers is paramount and our tours will only visit places that the Foreign Office advises are safe to travel to. We recommend that your check the latest travel advice from the relevant advisory body in your country.

With recent events in the Middle East Region, travel advice to Egypt does change from time to time. At this point in time, we are using the sleeper train service between Cairo and/or Luxor and Aswan, as the Interior Ministry in Egypt disallows foreign nationals to travel on the seated service. We are also not running tours to the Siwa Oasis and will re-evaluate this again as soon as the FCO lifts the current travel ban to Egypt's Western Desert.

The FCO currently advises against all but essential travel by air to or from Sharm el Sheikh airport. None of our group tours include Sharm el Sheikh and so our group tours remain unaffected by this travel alert. We will be monitoring the situation closely.
