Durga Pooja - Kolkata

The biggest festival in all of Bengal, Durga Purja is a celebration of the goddess Durga. Filled with sound and colour, this is one festival not to be missed.

Celebrated with particular fervour in Kolkata, enormous statues of the goddess are made for the Durga Puja Festival while thunderous drums rock the city for the festival’s duration. You’ll also find traces of the celebrations in West Bengal, Assam, Jharkand, Orissa and Tripura where it’s celebrated with a five day annual holiday. Including the worship of Durga’s husband Shiva and their children, Hindu communities the world over celebrate Durga Puja.
