Elephant Festival - Jaipur

This is one festival that really does what it says on the tin (although aside from the elephants, this particular tin also has a load of dancers and musicians in it.) Music, colour, dancing and a load of elephants – the Elephant Festival is a riot of colour and sound.

Visitors are greeted by the elephants and offered garlands of flowers, later on judges and guests take part in deciding on who is the ‘Best Decorated Elephant.’ After the prestigious award is given it is time for some racing and a few rounds of elephant polo. The grand finale is a tug of war between man and beast as men go head to head with the elephants in an epic duel of strength, incidentally, all the elephants taking part in the festival are female.
