International Folk Festival - Jodhpur

International Folk Festival - Jodhpur

This is one of the most exciting festivals on the calendar, and one that crosses over nicely into western music festival traditions while maintaining a strong grip on traditional music styles.

Held in a beautiful fort in the Blue City of Jodhpur, previous years have seen international collaborations between artists who hail from as far afield both musically and geographically as one can imagine. Picture a British beat-boxer and traditional Rajasthani musicians jamming together onstage and you have an idea of what you might hear at the RIFF (Rajasthan International Folk Festival). The current maharajah comes from a long line of arts patrons, and this support of the arts continues today. Educated in Britain and a classmate of Mick Jagger, you’ll probably spot the maharajah at a few of the performances. You may even spot Jagger, who made an appearance at the inaugural 2007 festival. Having launched just four years ago, this festival is already lauded as one of the most innovative in India.
