The Republic Day parade celebrates Indian independence with a day of military parades and air force fly-pasts accompanied by traditional Indian song and dance.
Although India gained independence in 1947, its constitution only came into force on the 26th of January 1950, which finally made it a truly sovereign state. To mark this historic occasion, a parade is held in Delhi between Rajghat and Vijaypath every year. Regiments of the Amy, Navy and Air Force join the parade in full regalia, and are joined by tribal dancers from India’s different states. Jet planes stage a fly-past, leaving a trail of coloured smoke, which marks the end of the parade.| From | To | |||
