The Festival of Mud - Boryeong

The Festival of Mud - Boryeong

The little known Korean town of Boryeong attracts approximately 2 million visitors during its annual Mud Festival. Although the festival last two weeks it is the final weekend that attracts most people. The mineral rich mud, which luckily is fantastic for the skin, is transported from the mud flats to Dacheon beach area and forms the centrepiece of the Mud Experience Land.

Unlike other Korean festival, which promote and preserve ancient traditions, the Boreyong mud festival is purely commercial. Conceived to promote a range of cosmetics it just proves that people love "getting down and dirty" and it is a big hit on the Korean events calendar. Mud pools are created to host skiing and wrestling contests but it is the mud sliding that provides the most fun for all! Dates for 2012 are yet to be confirmed.
