Day 1: Delhi - Amritsar

Welcome to India and the start of your incredible holiday. We'll be there at the airport to greet you and transfer you to the railway station for your train to Amritsar, home to Sikhism's holiest shrine - the Golden Temple. Transfer to hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Amritsar

Home to the world famous Golden Temple and the seat of the Sikh religion, Amritsar is one of the Punjab’s principal cities. Built in 1803 and made of marble, copper and pure leaf gold, the temple is an amazing architectural feat. Morning visit to Golden temple followed by a sightseeing tour of the city.

Day 3: Amritsar - Delhi

Spend the day further exploring this exciting and colourful city before taking the evening train back to Delhi. On arrival in Delhi you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Day 4: Delhi - Khajuraho

Today we explore both Old and New Delhi. The order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the unorganised chaos of the Old City but both are just as appealing. Your tour takes in the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation and more. Later in the evening you will be transferred to the railway station for your overnight train to Khajuraho.

Day 5: Khajuraho

On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in Khajuraho where you can spend the morning at leisure. In the afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Chandela Dynasty temples built between 950-1050 AD. Immortalised in stone, the carved temples depict Indian life a millennium ago, including erotic scenes from the Kama Sutra.

Day 6: Khajuraho - Varanasi

After a leisurely breakfast and morning free to relax in your hotel, transfer to the airport for your flight to Varanasi. On arrival you will be taken to your hotel and later collected for an afternoon tour of Sarnath, the place where Buddha came to preach his message of the middle way to Nirvana.

Day 7: Varanasi

This morning we enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the holy Ganges where we’ll view the ancient religious tradition of ritual cleansing that takes place on the many riverbank ghats (riverside steps). Later, we embark on a tour of the city taking in the key places of interest. In the evening why not head back to the river to witness the evening ritual worship?

Day 8: Varanasi - Bodhgaya

This morning we drive to Bodhgaya where Prince Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment beneath a bodhi tree and so became the Buddha. Enjoy an afternoon sightseeing tour of the serene temples and religious monuments.

Day 9: Bodhgaya - Patna

After breakfast continue to tour India's Buddha Triangle. Drive to Patna, the once-powerful city in the early 5th century. En route stop to visit Ragjir and Narlanda, both important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists and Jains. Later in the afternoon enjoy a tour of Vaishali, an ancient city visited many times by Buddha and home to a number of interesting stupas.

Day 10: Patna - Agra

This morning an early transfer takes you to the airport for your flight to Delhi. Upon arrival you will be met and will begin the journey to Agra. On arrival the remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy at leisure.

Day 11: Agra

Today visit Agra Fort, which during its time has been a military structure, a palace and a prison. At sunset we visit the Taj Mahal, here you will enjoy exploration time and also a guided explanation of this once powerful mogul emperor’s monument to love.

Day 12: Agra - Jaipur

This morning we will take a drive out to the ghostly fortifed city of Fatehpur Sikri, abandonded only 8 years after its construction due to droughts in the area. Continuing on you will arrive at Jaipur, 'The Pink City'. In the afternoon enjoy some free time to relax.

Day 13: Jaipur

This morning we visit the delicate pink, magnificent fort-palace of Amber - a wonderful example of Rajput architecture just north of Jaipur. Subject to Government regulations, we will arrive in style riding on an elephant! In the afternoon you will enjoy a tour of the city. Highlights include the City Palace, which boasts an interesting museum of regal attire and Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory.

Day 14: Jaipur - Ranthambhore NP

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we depart Jaipur and make our way to the Ranthambhore National Park for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Ranthambhore National Park is one of India’s most scenic parks and offers a rich diversity of fauna and flora including the Bengal tiger, sambar, chital, nilgai, wild boar, leopard, sloth bear and myriad birdlife.

Days 15-16: Ranthambhore NP

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives for the next two days in the national park. Ranthambore National Park is one of the prime examples of Project Tiger’s conservation efforts in Rajasthan. The forests around the Ranthambore Fort were once the private hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur

Day 17: Ranthambhore NP - Pushkar

After breakfast we depart Ranthambhore and head to Pushkar, an amazing place of pilgrimage that has more than 400 temples.

Day 18: Pushkar - Ajmer

Some of the holy places that you will see today are the Brahma Temple, Gau Ghat, Nag Hill, Markendeya Rishi Ashram, Pap Mochini Temple, Agastya Muni Ashram and Gaya Kund, the picturesque lake, the Savitri Temple, and the Pushkar Bazaar. Later in the afternoon we transfer to the Muslim pilgrimage town of Ajmer.

Day 19: Ajmer

Enjoy a day sightseeing with your expert local guide. First stop is Dargah of Khawaja Moin-Ud-Din-Chisti in Ajmer - the tomb of the sufi saint who lived here in the 12th century. Afterwards visit the Museum in Ajmer which is known for being the former abode of the Mughal ruler Akbar. It has a good collection of various armours and sculptures. Later afternoon at your leisure.

Day 20: Ajmer - Ranakpur

After breakfast we drive to Ranakpur, an incredible feat of Jain devotion with one of the most impressive temples in all of India. Enjoy some time to independently explore the intricately carved temples and their uniquely designed pillars.

Day 21: Ranakpur - Udaipur

Continuing south we arrive at Udaipur. An oasis of cool, with its massive lake and Venetian-like appearance, Udaipur is one of the most romantic towns in Rajasthan. A favourite amongst travellers, Udaipur is crammed full of palaces and temples. This evening enjoy a cruise on Lake Pichola.

Day 22: Udaipur

This morning enjoy touring the imposing City Palace, a vision in soft yellow stone on the northeast promontory with breathtaking views of the lake. The City Palace is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. We then take you to visit Jagdish Temple and Sahelion ki bari. You will have free time to explore on your own or perhaps shop for colourful Rajasthani arts and crafts before an evening visit to the Monsoon Palace.

Day 23: Udaipur - Alleppey

It's an early start today with an early morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Kochi in Kerala. On arrival into Kochi you will be collected and transferred to Allepey to board a traditional Keralan house-boat, your home for the night. The boat will cross shallow, palm-fringed lakes and cruise along peaceful canals where copra and cashews are loaded onto local boats. The on-board cook will prepare locally-inspired food. Relax, read and catch some sun as the boat plies its route.

Day 24: Alleppey - Mararikulam

Disembarking from your houseboat this morning you will be driven to Mararikulam beach. Located in the southern Indian state of Kerala, Mararikulam is an attractive palm fringed coastal stretch comprising a small village and resort accommodation on the Arabian Sea.

Days 25-27: Mararikulam

Water sports, catamaran cruising, yoga, meditation and rejuvenating Ayurvedic treatments are popular distractions in idyllic Mararikulam. Spend the next three days at leisure, doing as little or as much as you like.

Day 28: Mararikulam - Delhi

After a leisurely breakfast bid farewell to your slice of Keralan paradise as we transfer you to the airport for your flight back to Delhi. On arrival you will be transferred the short distance to your airport hotel, perfectly located for your early morning departure tomorrow.
