Welcome to India, on arrival we will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel to freshen up. Later we head out to explore both Old and New Delhi -the order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the unorganised chaos of the Old City. But both are just as appealing. Highlights of your tour will be the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation and more.
Departing Delhi, you journey to Agra, once India’s Mughal capital. after we check into our hotel we take an afternoon tour first visiting Agra fort, which boasts some of India’s finest Mughal buildings behind its fortified walls and then visiting the Baby Taj.
This morning we take a early morning tour to watch the sunrise at the legendary Taj Mahal - India's famous monument of love. Built entirely of white marble, the Taj Mahal has no peers, and in the evening light it really is a sight to behold! We return to the hotel for breakfast and then travel by road to Jaipur. Enroute we visit the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri before heading to Jaipur for the evening.
This morning we have breakfast at the hotel before a full days sightseeing. Look out for the snake charmers that dot our route, as we travel to the 16th century Amber Fort. An exotic elephant ride transports us to the lofty fort, where you will enjoy a tour of this Rajput extravaganza. Later in the afternoon you tour the City Palace, which boasts an interesting museum of regal attire and Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory and Hawa Mahal.
Today, you drive to the semi-desert Shekhawati region. The small towns in this region became important trading posts, a lasting legacy of which are the beautiful painted havelis (mansions) constructed by wealthy merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries, here you will enjoy free time on your own to explore.
This morning after a breakfast in peace, we will drive to Bikaner where you will enjoy an afternoon city tour. Bikaner was once an important staging post on the great caravan routes, much of the atmospheric old town which we will explore is still encircled by massive fortified walls. Within these walls are havelis, artisan shops and people going about their daily lives. We also visit the spectacular Junagarh Fort, built between 1587 & 1593 during the rule of Rai Singh and a camel breeding farm.
Today we continue on our in-depth tour and start driving through the mighty Thar Desert where we arrive at the medieval caravan outpost of Jaisalmer, one of the jewels in India’s crown. Exquisite wood and sandstone buildings dot the town and within Jaisalmer Fort are homes, hotels and shops hidden in ancient lane ways. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.
Unique in India, this captivating sandy outpost is known as the Golden City owing to the honey colour imparted to its stone ramparts by the setting sun. After breakfast at the hotel we will have a morning sightseeing tour of the city, before driving out for our nights exciting desert camp, this evening you will enjoy sunset over desert with a camel trek.
Today, we travel to Jodhpur, the largest city in Rajasthan after Jaipur. Known as the Blue City, in reference to the indigo coloured buildings that dot the old city, and the local’s belief that blue acts as effective defence against mosquitoes! In the old city are a tangle of streets and alleyways, bazaars and human traffic. This afternoon is at your leisure.
Standing at the edge of the Thar Desert, the city is dominated by its massive fort, which sits atop a sheer rocky ridge right in the middle of the town. Meherangarh Fort, still run by the Maharaja of Jodhpur is an impressive sight. We take a morning tour which includes both the Meherangarh Fort and Cenotaphs. Later we depart destined for the famous romantic city of Udaipur when you arrive enjoy free time. Udaipur, is an oasis of cool, with its massive lake and Venetian-like appearance, it is also one of the most romantic towns in Rajasthan. A favourite amongst travellers, it is crammed full of palaces and temples.
This morning enjoy touring of the imposing City Palace, a vision in soft yellow stone on the northeast promontory with breathtaking views of the lake. The City Palace is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. You will also have a bit of free time to explore the palace or perhaps shop for colourful Rajasthani arts and crafts before your evenings tranquil shared boat ride on Lake Pichola.
This morning is free time to explore before you are transferred to the airport to catch you included flight back to Delhi. On Arrival in Delhi you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel for check in. The rest of the afternoon and evening is yours to explore the hustle and bustle of Delhi.
This morning after breakfast at the hotel you will be met by your driver who will take you to the train station where you will board a train to Kalka. In Kalka we catch a second trainto Shimla where you are met by a representative and taken to you hotel for check in.
Today and tomorrow in Shimla we have free time to explore and relax whilst you take in the picturesque surroundings.
This morning after breakfast your driver will take you back to Kalka where you will board a train to Delhi. On arrival back into Delhi you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel.
This morning after breakfast our arrangements end with a departure transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
