Arrive into Mumbai on South African Airways flight at 00:05 (booked independently) and connect with your internal flight to Delhi (booked by us). We will be there to greet you in the arrivals hall of Delhi airport and transfer you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax after your international flight.
Today we explore both Old and New Delhi. The order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the disorganised chaos of the Old City but both are just as appealing. Taking in the impressive Red Fort (drive by only - Red Fort is closed Mondays), Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation and more, including a thrilling rickshaw ride!
After breakfast and hotel check out depart we depart Delhi and make our way to Agra via the ghostly city of Fatehpur Sikri, abandoned shortly after its construction in 1571 due to water shortages. Arriving into Agra in the afternoon we will tour the impressive Agra Fort and make it to the iconic Taj Mahal in time for a magical sunset.
This morning we drive to Ranthambhore National Park, one of India’s most scenic parks and offers a rich diversity of fauna and flora including the Bengal tiger, sambar, chital, nilgai, wild boar, leopard, sloth bear and myriad birdlife. After lunch head out on an afternoon game drive in a shared jeep/canter.
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the national park. Ranthambore National Park is one of the prime examples of Project Tiger’s conservation efforts in Rajasthan. The forests around the Ranthambore Fort were once the private hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur.
This morning we bid the wilds of Ranthambhore goodbye and head to the Pink City of Jaipur, a flamboyant showcase of Rajasthani architecture and a firm favourite on tourist itineraries as the third corner of India’s ‘Golden Triangle’. The afternoon is free for you to explore Jaipur at leisure or you could opt for our 'Jaipur Up Close' enhance option and enjoy a guided tour of the city.
Early this morning you will sail over the city of Jaipur on a hot air balloon ride for stunning vistas as the day's light bathes the warm coloured architecture below. Look out for the snake charmers that dot our route, as we travel to the 16th century Amber Fort. An exotic elephant ride transports us to the lofty fort, where we’ll enjoy a tour of this Rajput extravaganza. Later we drive to the semi-desert region of Shekhawati. The small towns in this region became important trading posts, a lasting legacy of which are the beautiful painted havelis (mansions) constructed by wealthy merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries. The afternoon offers free time for you to meander through the local villages.
This morning is at leisure for you to further enjoy village life and the beautiful havelis. Later in the day we transfer back to Delhi for overnight.
It's an early start today as we transfer you to the railway station for your 07:20 departure to Amritsar on the Swarna Shtabadi train in A/C Chair Car. Arriving into Amritsar at 13:25 we will transfer you to your hotel. There is some free time before we visit the Pakistan/India border at Wagah for the enjoyable border closing ceremony - an entertaining of display of pomp!
Today enjoy a city tour including a visit to the famous Golden Temple, the seat of the Sikh religion. Built in 1803 and made of marble, copper and pure leaf gold, the temple is an amazing architectural feat. The remainder of the day is free. You might want to consider heading back to the Golden Temple to watch the gold exterior change colour dramatically as the sun begins to set. It's also worth seeing at night when it comes alive with hundreds of lightbulbs.
Morning at leisure. In the afternoon we will transfer you to the railway station for your 16:55 train back to Delhi, arriving at 23:05. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight.
Early this morning we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Mumbai. Upon arrival we will collect you and take you to your hotel where there will be time to freshen up and enjoy a spot of lunch before an afternoon city tour. Highlights include the Prince of Wales Museum, Gateway of India and Marine drive.
The morning is free for you to enjoy Mumbai at leisure or opt for our 'Elephanta Caves' enhance option for a boat trip to these fabulous cave temples. The remainder of the day is free before a transfer to the airport for your onward departure flight.
