Welcome to India and the start of your holiday! Arriving to Delhi International Airport you will be met by our representative and included onward transfer to our hotel. Later today we’ll then enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of Delhi, taking in the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation and more.
Bright and early this morning we board the Shatabdi Express bound for Kalka. Here, travellers will transfer (independently) to the narrow gauge Himalayan Queen Toy Train travelling to Shimla. To the commotion of the steam train's arrival to Shimla, we meet our representative on the station platform and transfer to our hotel for an evening at leisure.
Former ‘summer capital’ of British India, Shimla sprawls along a crescent-shaped ridge at an altitude of over 2100m. The famous main street, ‘The Mall’, lined with stately English homes and the fortress-like former Viceregal Lodge, reinforces Shimla’s quintessential English look. Today we enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the lofty settlement, venturing into the narrow streets, which fall steeply away from the ridge giving way to colourful bazaars and fine views of the surrounding valley and snow-capped peaks.
Spectacular scenery awaits today on our drive through the backdrop of the Himalayas to the town of Manali. This a 6-7 hour drive, stops can be made within reason for photos and a quick bite to eat.
Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of this magnificent hill fort today. Also take in Hidimba Devi Temple and the beautiful Vashist Spring, the remainder of the day you will have at your leisure.
Driving north to Dharamsala offers some dramatic scenery, where rolling foothills rise high toward snow capped peaks. Dharamsala, the British hill station turned Tibetan settlement, home to the Dalai Lama and thousands of Tibetan refugees offers a sense of peace and tranquility to all those who arrive.
Enjoy an included guided sightseeing of the area surrounding the Dalai Lama’s residence, Dharamsala’s main Buddhist Temple - Tsug Lakhang and the Norbulingka Institute - centre for Buddhist learning and handicrafts.
This morning after breakfast we head East to the city on the border with Pakistan, Amritsar. En route enjoy yet again more breath taking scenery, upon arrival check into you hotel and have the remainder of the evening at your leisure.
Today we visit the beautiful Golden Temple which is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh religion. Maharaja Ranjit Singh built the seat of Sikh religion in 1803. Constructed of white marble, bronze and gold leaf, the Golden Temple has four entrances and the walls are inlaid with semi-precious stones in floral patterns, frescoes and glasswork.
This morning after breakfast, we will transfer you back to the hotel where you will have the remainder of the day free.
