Upon arrival into Delhi, you'll be met at the airport and transferred to the hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to relax or independently explore this bustling capital.
Transfer to railway station for train to Amritsar (Train Shtabadi, 0720/1325, A/C Chair Car). We will collect you from the train station and transfer you to your hotel. This evening we enjoy a visit to Wagah - the only border crossing between India and Pakistan for the sunset ‘Retreat’ ceremony, where the changing of the guards & ceremonial lowering of the flags is performed with great pomp.
Today a visit to the Famous Golden Temple the seat of the Sikh religion, Amritsar is one of the Punjab’s principal cities. Built in 1803 and made of marble, copper and pure leaf gold, the temple is an amazing architectural feat. The you will be transferred back to the train station for your train back to Delhi (Shtabadi - 1700 - A/C) Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
We transfer to the airport today for our flight to Kathmandu (SG41 - 0740/0955). Upon arrival we transfer you to your hotel for check-in and this afternoon enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu.
This morning, take a magical Everest flight. Early morning flights have great views of the mountains and changing colours of the snow peaks as the sun rises. The cloud cover is low due to the cold of dawn. It is a truly picturesque flight over these stunning peaks. Later today, we transfer you to the airport for your flight back to Varanasi (AI320 - 1420/1505). New Years Eve - this evening attend the Aarti Ceremony at Ganges.
Enjoy an early morning boat ride on the Ganges River followed by a guided city tour. In the afternoon we visit Sarnath before transferring to the Mughal Sarai railway station for the overnight train to Tundla (Magadh Express - 2220/0630 - 1st Class A/C)
Upon arrival in Agra, you are transferred to your hotel. Today we visit the famous Taj Mahal (closed Friday's), enjoy your own time to explore and a guided tour of this once powerful Moghul emperor’s monument to love. We also visit Agra fort built under the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565 that contains numerous palaces and a white marble mosque and the Baby Taj.
En route to Jaipur, we visit the ghostly former Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, abandoned due to lack of water. We enjoy lunch at Chandra Mahel Haveli in Peharsar. In Jaipur, we visit a cotton trading/tailor shop where you can get clothing tailored for delivery to your hotel before we leave!
Look out for the snake charmers that dot our route, as we travel to the 16th century Amber Fort. An exotic elephant ride transports us to the lofty fort, where we’ll enjoy a tour of this Rajput extravaganza. Later in the afternoon we tour the City Palace, which boasts an interesting museum of regal attire and Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory.
Today, we leave Jaipur heading back to Delhi.
We explore both Old and New Delhi - the order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the unorganised chaos of the Old City. But both are just as appealing. (Red Fort closed Monday's).
