Chambal Travel

The Chambal River was declared a Gharial Sanctuary during 1978-79 by the M.P. Government, with an aim to provide a fully protected habitat for the conservation and propagation of the highly endangered Crocodilian species and the gangetic dolphin. The National Chambal Sanctuary is the longest river Sanctuary and holds the best Gharial population in the country.

The park is famous for the endangered Indian Skimmer birds, as well as black-bellied tern, large flocks of migratory waterfowl, cranes such as common, demoiselle and sarus, Greater Thicknee, the Comb Duck, Brahmani Duck, Bar-headed Geese, Spoonbill, Herons, Kingfishers, Fishing Eagles, Flamingos, Pelicans, Cormorants, and Partridges.

There are more than 260 bird species within the Sanctuary and the best ways to explore are by boat and walking along the river banks.
