Day 1: Delhi
Welcome to India and the start of your holiday! You will be met at Delhi International Airport by our friendly local team and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure to explore or relax as you like.
Day 3: Delhi - Leh & Ladakh
Early morning transfer to the airport for your fight to Leh (9W 2345 - 0540 / 0700) Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to adjust to the altitude.
Day 4: Leh & Ladakh
Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of the town, dominated by Sengge Namgyal’s nine- storey palace, a building in the grand tradition of Tibetan architecture. Above it, on Namgyal Semo the peak overlooking the town, are the ruins of the earliest royal residence at Leh a fort built by king Tashi Namgyal in the 16th century. In the bazaar the main sites to visit are the jo khang a modern ecumenical Buddhist temple, and an imposing mosque dating from the late 17th century situated opposite each other. Rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 6: Leh & Ladakh - Kargil
Today we have a long drive ahead of us -- We will drive from Leh to Kargil - Sit back and enjoy the spectacular views along the way. Arrival in Kargil and check into your hotel. Relax after the long journey.
Day 7: Kargil - Srinagar
Today we have another long drive ahead of us -- We will drive from Kargil to Srinagar- Sit back and enjoy the spectacular views along the way. We will stop in Sonamarg for a quick break (if you like to stay longer please let your driver know). Arrival in Srinagar and check into your house boat. Relax after the long journey.
Day 8: Srinagar
After breakfast, enjoy a full day cultural tour to the old city visiting its old monuments and bazaars. Srinagar is the summer capital of Kashmir and a city with a distinctly Central Asian flavour. The old city includes a labyrinth of alleyways, mosques and houses that constitute the commercial heart of the city
Day 9: Srinagar
Today you will have a full day excursion to Gulmarg , a golden meadow with a beautiful river running through it, which streams down from the Himalayas. Today is all about nature and enjoying the scenery so sit back and relax and take in the gorgeous surroundings.
Day 10: Srinagar - Dharamsala
Today you will fly to Jammu airport from Srinagar (S2 4108 - 1110 / 1150) Arrival in Jammu our local driver will then drive up into the mountains to Dharamsala - Arriving here, check into your hotel and relax after the drive.
Day 11: Dharamsala
Enjoy a guided sightseeing of the area surrounding the Dalai Lama’s residence, Dharamsala’s main Buddhist Temple - Tsug Lakhang and the Norbulingka Institute - centre for Buddhist learning and handicrafts.
Day 12: Dharamsala - Amritsar
Today we drive down from the Himalayas to the desert plains - Arriving into Amritsar check into your hotel and relax for the evening.
Day 13: Amritsar
This morning enjoy a tour of Amritsar, taking in the beautiful Golden Temple, considered the holiest shrine to Sikhs the world over, yet open to all. Surrounded by a complex of sparkling white marble and a lake for purification the lavishly gilded temple with bulbous golden domes houses the Adi Granth, the book of teachings for the Sikh faith. This evening we drive to the Wagah Border crossing (a land crossing between India/Pakistan) to watch the highly animated ‘Flag Lowering’ ceremony - a must for any visitor to the north of India.
Day 14: Amritsar - Delhi
Enjoy the day at leisure to explore - Later, a transfer to the station for the Shatabadi Express - 1730 / 2300 train to Delhi (Executive Air Condition Chair car class) Arrival, and we will be there to transfer you to your hotel. (Earlier train available if you would prefer more time in Delhi - Amritsar Shatabdi 0500/1115 hrs ??)
Day 15: Delhi
Morning you will travel to Agra on the morning express train (Shatabadi Express - 0610 / 0815) - Arrival and enjoy sightseeing of the Agra fort and of course Taj Mahal - Returning to Delhi in the evening by express train (Shatabadi Express - 2030 / 2250 - Both journeys are in Executive Air Condition Chair car class)
