Welcome to Incredible India! You will be met upon arrival in Delhi and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Old Delhi this morning, taking in the Red Fort, Jama Masjid mosque and the bazaars of Chandni Chowk. This afternoon, enjoy a tour of New Delhi, designed by the eminent Sir Edward Lutyens. Highlights include the India Gate, Rajpath and bustling Connaught Place. A visit is also made to Qutab Minar, essentially a massive tower built to proclaim the arrival of Islam in the 11th century and a carpet emporium.
This morning we drive to Jaipur, affectionately known as the Pink City as Maharaja Ram Singh had all of the Old City painted a welcoming pink in 1876 to herald a visit by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), it is also the bustling capital of the state of Rajasthan. The afternoon is your to explore independently.
This morning we travel beyond Jaipur to the stunning 16th century Amber Fort - a sprawling Rajput concoction which hugs the hill on which it was built and overlooks the hot plains below. We will arrive in style riding on an elephant (subject to Government Regulations as the elephants are limited to the number of trips that can make up the fort each) Later, enjoy a city tour of the City Palace, followed by a visit to the Jantar Mantar space observatory.
En route to Agra, we visit Fatehpur Sikri, former imperial capital of the great Mughal emperor Akbar. Built between 1569 and 1585, it has been deserted for more than four centuries, by all accounts abandoned in 1600 due to a meagre supply of water. On arrival in Agra, the rest of the day is at your leisure.
This morning we visit the legendary Taj Mahal to witness a magical sunrise. Built by Shah Jahan in the 16th century as an enduring memorial to his beloved wife Mumtaz. Built entirely of white marble, the Taj Mahal has no peers. Later, enjoy a visit to the colossal 15th century Agra Fort.
Transfer to the rail station for the morning train to Jhansi. Upon arrival, the journey continues by road to Khajuraho. En route a visit is made to Orchha. On the banks of the River Betwa, Orchha is famed for its temples and palaces built by the 16th century Bundela rulers. This evening enjoy a compulsory Christmas Eve Gala Dinner at the hotel (not included, price to be advised)
Close behind the Taj Mahal and up there with Varanasi and Jaipur, are the amazing temples of Khajuraho. Immortalised in stone is a wealth of sensuous and erotic sculptures. This morning visit these famous temples. To avoid a long drive, you will fly to the holiest of Hindu pilgrimage destinations in India – Varanasi. On arrival into Varanasi, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Abundant with temples and a labyrinth of streets, Varanasi is exciting, enticing and a city not to be missed. Early this morning we enjoy a boat ride on the River Ganges to view the sunrise and the ancient religious tradition of ritual cleansing that takes place on the ghats (riverside steps). Enjoy a tour of the city, with its numerous temples and wonderful historic feel. At sunset we return to the ghats for the Aarti Ceremony, remarkably different from the dawn ritual.
Take to the skies with a flight to Goa today (via Mumbai). Upon arrival at Goa airport you will be met by our local representative transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend at leisure
Thanks to its picturesque location on the Mandovi River, between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, Goa is one of India’s prime destinations. Although best known for its massive stretch of magnificent, palm tree-lined beaches, Goa offers other attractions for example the Portuguese Catholic Church of Old Goa, St. Anne’s Church and the Basilica of Bom Jesus. The surrounding countryside is dotted with luxurious old estates built by wealthy Indians, including Braganza Palace, which is open to the public. Spend the next 4 days relaxing on the beach, swimming in the sea and simply relaxing. On 31st December, enjoy a compulsory Gala Dinner at the hotel (not included, price to be advised)
