Welcome to India and the city of dreams Mumbai! Arriving into Mumbai Airport your exclusive journey begins. Our friendly team are on hand to meet you and transfer you to your hotel.
Mumbai or Bombay, as it was formerly known - remains India’s city of dreams. Today we embark on a glittering city tour, with a morning visit to the cave temples of Elephanta Island sculpted during the 5th to the 8th centuries. In the afternoon visit the Prince of Wales museum, Marine Drive and the Mani Bhawan Jain temple. This evening enjoy a leisurely horse and buggy ride along Marine Drive toward Chowpatty beach.
We return to the airport this morning and catch a flight to Hubli. Here, our local driver waits to transfer you to Hampi. Spend the day exploring Hampi at your leisure, watch out for the cheeky monkeys that are absolutely everywhere they have a tendency to steal sunglasses and bags and hold you ransom for banana payoffs!
Enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of the ancient ruins that are spread over 26 sq km area, many of which lie in and around Hampi Bazaar and the nearby riverside area, which also encompasses the city’s most sacred enclave of temples and ghats. East of Hampi Bazaar is the UNESCO-listed 16th century Vittala Temple, the undisputed highlight of the ruins.
This morning we will drive you through to Hassan, seeing the countryside along the way (approximately 7 hour drive, allowing for refreshment /photo stops along the way). Arriving into Hassan, we will transfer you to the hotel.
This morning we drive to nearby Shravanabelagola and spend the entire day with our expert guide exploring the region which will include visits to Vindhyagiri, Chandragiri, Odegal Basti, Mahamasthakabhisheka, and Kattlae Basadi. We then in the late afternoon drive to Mysore where you will stay the night.
Today we drive west to Nagarhole National Park, once the Maharaja’s reserve forest turned national park in 1955. The park name, Nagarhole is derived from the Kannada word, naga meaning snake and hole meaning stream. True to its name Nagarhole is criss-crossed with serpentine streams. Covering gentle hills bordering Kerala, the area includes swampland, streams and tributaries, moist deciduous forest, stands of bamboo and valuable teak and rosewood trees. Spot Asian elephant, four horned antelope, flying squirrels and on occasion leopard and tiger. This afternoon enjoy a jeep Safari to see the incredible wildlife.
Today enjoy morning and afternoon Jeep Safaris in the national park, spotting wild elephants and so much more.
Bright and early this morning we drive to the coastal city of Kozikhode passing through the cloud forest regions which is really rather scenic. Arriving in Kozhikode you will catch the 9 AM express train to Angamali. Arriving here around 1pm, meet our driver who will take you to your hotel in Munnar.
Starting the trek from an altitude of 1500 m, we gradually ascending to over 2600m, passing through sholas (high altitude rain forests) and grasslands which are typical to the higher areas of the Western Ghats . The area also has wildlife – notably elephants, sambar, sloth bear and the Nilgiri tahr - the latter being endemic and endangered. The camp is set up at an altitude of approximately 2200m.
We will be starting early as we head along paths over the undulating mountain grasslands and ascend Meesapulimala - the second highest peak in the Western Ghats. This is a great opportunity to trek off the tourist trail. We will descend and continue trekking through grasslands and high altitude rainforest till we reach Kollukumalai tea estate. From there we will be transferred by jeep to the Anaerangal Camp at Suryanelli.
This morning we drive to your home stay farm in the backwaters of Kerala. Arriving here, meet with the host family partake in a cooking class and if time permits learn how to climb coconut palms as the farmers do, making coconut fiber rope and more.
This morning enjoy a boat ride on the lake to see the wildlife. We then drive to Alleppey and board a simply furnished private rice-boat for a journey through the backwaters in and around Alleppey. Crewed by a poler to push the rice boat through the water, a distance of some 20 kms will be covered, during which time the boat will glide past colourful local villages. As for dining, the on-board cook will prepare meals using fresh local produce.
Disembarking at Alleppey, you’ll be driven the short distance to Kochi. This afternoon enjoy time to explore the spice capital.
Sadly your journey has come to an end, we will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
