This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of the town including the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568, the Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese in 1555 and St Francis’ Church. A walking tour of Fort Cochin takes you through streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial architecture. This afternoon enjoy time to explore the city at your leisure.
This morning we head out of town to Alleppey. Here we embark a traditional rice boat for a cruise in the famous backwaters taking in the tranquil scenery ad village life as you pass by, with a lovely lunch on board. Disembarking around 15:30 we head south to the gorgeous beachside town of Varkala. This morning a short transfer to Trivandrum Airport for your flight to Chennai (11:20 TRV – 12:35 MAA) Arriving here, meet our local driver who will assist you to the hotel. Enjoy a guided afternoon tour of the city includes a visit to St George Fort, built in 1653 and St Mary’s Church, the oldest British church in India.
Today a visit Kanchipuram, one of sacred cities in India and the seaside town of Mahabalipuram, famous for its shore temple. The city is also famous for hand woven silk. In Mahabalipuram, the huge rock-cut sculptures and mandapams (pillared pavilions) date from the 5th to 8th centuries.
Taking to the sky once more you fly north to Hyderabad (11:00 MAA – 12:10 HYD) Arriving here, your driver will meet you for a transfer to the hotel.
Heading in the morning we visit the massive granite hilltop fortress of Golkanda just west of Hyderabad. Though first constructed as a mud fort in the 13th century it wasn't until several centuries later, during the Qutb Shahi Dynasty, that it was transformed into its current impressive appearance. Nearby we visit a cluster of royal tombs that were the final burial ground of the Qutb Shahi rulers. The seven domed structures feature ornately carved stonework and are surrounded by landscaped gardens. Inside the tombs are lavishly furnished and at the centre of each is a sarcophagus covering the crypt below. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore.
