Enjoy your fascinating six hours drive through Orissa and its tribal regions. En-route to Jeypore, you will make one very interesting stop to visit the Nandaput tribal market and local village. Here, people from all over the remote region bring goods to trade and barter. Arrival in Jeypore and probably a spot of relaxing at the hotel is in order.
In similar spirits to yesterdays visit to Nandaput, today's exploration takes us to Onukudelli tribal market. It is important to bear in mind that Orissa is an incredibly diverse state and one of the few tribal regions left in the country in turn one place to the next speaks a different language, where its own tribal dress and has its own tribal customs.
Enjoy your fascinating four hours drive through Orissa and its tribal regions. En-route to Rayagada, you will make one very interesting stop to visit the Paraja tribe & their weekly market. The Parajas are the hill country people and interestingly there are seven classes of Parajas, which differ from each other in points of language, customs and traditions.
Today our day drive leads us back to the coast at Gopalpur. Along the way we will visit Taptapani, which is famous for its perennial hot spring of medicinal sulphuric waters. Touring includes a visit to the Chandragiri Tibetan Settlement and Taptapani Sulphur Spring Shrine.
Morning drive to Janhikuda for an excursion on Chilika Lake, Asia's largest lagoon, which is famous for its migratory birds and Arawadi dolphins which can be spotted if lucky. After, continue on along the coast to the holy town of Puri.
Today explore Puri which is blessed with beautiful beaches and famous for its imposing Jagannath Temple and visit the spectacular Sun Temple in Konark, which is a World Heritage Site. The temple was built as a chariot for the sun god Surya and has 24 gigantic stone wheels, 7 horses and many elaborate carvings.
This morning we make our way to the incredible city of Bhubaneshwar. But not without a stop first at the coastal town of Pipli which is renowned for it’s handicrafts, patchwork and exquisite appliqué. (OVERNIGHT at the Hindustan International Hotel)
