This morning we'll enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Old Delhi, taking in the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque. This afternoon we further enhance your exploration of this bustling city with an afternoon guided journey through the New Delhi area the highlights will include India gate a drive past parliamentary buildings and President's house, a guided visit to Humayun's tomb then concluding with sightseeing to UNESCO World Heritage Site Qutub minar.
Bright and early this morning we board the Shatabdi Express bound for Kalka. Here, travellers will transfer (independently) to the narrow gauge Himalayan Queen Toy Train travelling to Shimla. To the commotion of the steam train's arrival to Shimla, we meet our representative on the station platform and transfer to our hotel for an evening at leisure.
Former ‘summer capital’ of British India, Shimla sprawls along a crescent-shaped ridge at an altitude of over 2100m. The famous main street, ‘The Mall’, lined with stately English homes and the fortress-like former Viceregal Lodge, reinforces Shimla’s quintessential English look. Today we enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the lofty settlement, venturing into the narrow streets, which fall steeply away from the ridge giving way to colourful bazaars and fine views of the surrounding valley and snow-capped peaks.
Today offers free time for you to independently explore Shimla. You can opt to stroll, drop by the colourful Lakkar Bazaar or hike to the summit of Jakhoo Hill, Shimla’s highest point. Here visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of the eternal snows set as a glorious backdrop to the sleepy township of Shimla beneath. Hotel check out is at 12 noon, opt for some lunch and pack an evening picnic meal before boarding the Kalka Shatabdi Express at sunset and arriving into Delhi late this evening.
Early morning we catch the express train to Agra, arriving here we visit Agra fort, which boasts some of India’s finest Mughal buildings behind it’s fortified walls. During its history it has been a palace, a fort and a prison! We then enjoy a visit to the Magnificent Taj Mahal with free time to see the sunset at this iconic monument. We then return to Delhi on the express train, arriving at the station our local driver will take you to your hotel.
This morning at 11:00 we fly to Bagdogra. Arriving here at 13:30 meet up with our local team and drive to Darjeeling. Sitting at a spectacular altitude of 2124m with a backdrop of mighty snow-clad Himalayan peaks and surrounded by verdant tea plantations, Darjeeling has been a popular hill station since the British established it as an R & R centre for their troops in the mid 19th century. Draw cards include a number of Buddhist monasteries, tea plantations and colourful markets.
We enjoy a drive to Tiger Hill to catch sunrise over the snowy peaks of Kanchenjunga - the world’s third highest mountain. Continuing, enjoy a visit to the Ghoom Gompa (monastery) on the famous Toy Train. This is followed by city sightseeing and a visit to a tea estate. If wanting to purchase Darjeeling’s most famous export, consider First Flush Super Fine Tippy Golden Flower Orange Pekoe 1. It’s Darjeeling’s best.
Enjoy a morning to explore Darjeeling at your leisure we then transfer you to the airport in Bagdogra for the short flight to Kolkata (DEP:-14:40 - ARR:-15:35) Arriving in the big city our friendly staff await to drive you to your hotel.
Enjoy a city sights tour including a visit to the imposing Victoria Memorial. Opened by the Prince of Wales in 1921, this vision in marble is often called the “Taj” of the British Raj. We also visit the New Market – a bazaar on Chowringhee Road, the stately Indian Museum founded in 1814 and the oldest and largest in India, St Paul’s Cathedral and the extraordinary Marble Palace which houses paintings by Rubens, Titian and Reynolds.
Today you take to the sky once more and fly south to Chennai (DEP:-06:30 - ARR:-08:40) Arriving into Chennai, have breakfast at the hotel while waiting for your rooms to be ready. In the afternoon a tour of the city includes a visit to St George Fort, built in 1653 and St Mary’s Church, the oldest British church in India.
This morning we visit Kanchipuram, one of sacred cities in India and the seaside town of Mahabalipuram, famous for its shore temple. The city is also famous for handwoven silk. In Mahabalipuram, the huge rock-cut sculptures and mandapams (pillared pavilions) date from the 5th to 8th centuries.
This morning we take you to the station with breakfast boxes to catch the Shatabdi Exp train to Bangalore. (DEP:-06:00 - ARR:-10:50) Arriving here, meet our local team and be driven to the hotel. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of this bustling city in the morning. The tour will include Tippu's Summer Palace, Botanical Gardens, Vidhana Soudha, Cubbon Park. The evening is free for you to explore at your own pace and do a little shopping!
Today we drive to Mysore the land of magnificent palaces and beautiful gardens. Mysore has still an old world charm which have not given way to modern amenities. Arrive Mysore and we will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city in the afternoon. Highlights include the impressive Maharaja's Palace, the official residence of the former royal family of Mysore we then return to Bangalore.
This morning you will be taken to Bangalore Airport for your flight to Mumbai. Here our local team await to transfer you to the train station for the short 3 hour train journey to Surat. Arriving here you have your own transfer and accommodation booked.
For the next days you have your own arrangements for accommodation, transfers etc in Surat.
We will pre book your ticket to come back to Mumbai make your own way to Surat Station in time for for the Train Mumbai Rajdhani -- DEP:-05:18 -- ARR:-08:35 -- Arriving into Mumbai central we collect you and take you to the hotel. This afternoon we enjoy highlights of Bollywood tour, which will include a drive past the famous stars homes, Film Shooting location and heritage cinema. This evening enjoy a leisurely horse and buggy ride along Marine Drive toward Chowpatty beach.
Mumbai or Bombay, as it was formerly known - remains India’s city of dreams. Today we embark on a glittering city tour, with a morning visit to the cave temples of Elephanta Island sculpted during the 5th to the 8th centuries. In the afternoon we visit first the Dhobi Ghats to see the worlds largest outdoor laundry! Then, on to the Prince of Wales museum, Marine Drive and the Mani Bhawan Jain temple. Return to the hotel where you have your rooms booked until your LATE 22:00 transfer to the airport for your flight home at 02:00 AM on the 4th Jan.
