Day 1: Mumbai

Welcome to India and the start of your incredible journey in India with On the Go Tours! We'll be there at the airport to greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Mumbai where the remainder of the day can be spent at leisure after your international flight.

Day 2: Mumbai - Madurai

It's an early start today as we transfer you to the airport for your Spice Jet flight to Madurai via Chennai (0605/0950 hrs). Upon arrival into Madurai we will transfer you to your hotel where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing after your early morning or you might want to explore the city independently.

Day 3: Madurai

Madurai is a bustling city jam-packed with rickshawallas, pilgrims and traders and resembling a seemingly continuous bazaar. Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour. Highlights include the Sri Meenakshi Temple built in 1560 and the city’s busy bazaars. Afternoon at leisure. In the evening we take you to the Minaskshi temple to witness a local ceremony.

Day 4: Madurai

Enjoy a day at leisure to explore Madurai independently.

Day 5: Madurai - Rameshwaram

Departing Madurai this morning we transfer by car to sacred island of Rameshwaram (approx. 3.5hr drive). Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure. Perhaps head down to the coast to relax on the beaches.

Day 6: Rameshwaram

This morning we will take you to the Ramanathaswamy Temple where you can wander around unguided. Built in the 12th century, the temple features huge pyramidal gopuras (monument towers) at its entrance with 22 temple tirthas (tanks) that pilgrims bathe in before entering the inner sections of the temple. Later, visit other temples in town.

Day 7: Rameshwaram

Enjoy a day at leisure with a car at your disposal to travel around the island.

Day 8: Rameshwaram - Chennai

Enjoy a leisurely morning before we transfer you back to Madurai for your overnight sleeper train to Chennai (Pandian Express 2035/0535 hrs).

Day 9: Chennai - Mahabalipuram

Upon arrival into Chennai we will collect you and transfer you to Mahabalipuram (approx. 1hr). Check in to your hotel and enjoy some time to freshen up before we visit the much photographed Shore Temple. Dating from the 8th century, the temple complex is one of the oldest structural stone temple in south India. From the 20th December to the 20th January the Mahabalipuram Dance festival takes place so this evening we will take you to see a display of dance performances at a local venue to enjoy this festival.

Day 10: Mahabalipuram - Varanasi

This morning we transfer you to the airport in Chennai for your flight to Varanasi (via Khajuraho - SG 323 0950/1205 hrs and 9W 2893 1505/1650 hrs). Upon arrival into Varanasi we will transfer you to your hotel.

Day 11: Varanasi

Varanasi, a city abundant with temples and labyrinthine streets. In the early morning of we will enjoy a boat ride on the holy Ganges River. Later we embark on a tour of India’s spiritual city before visiting Sarnath, a cluster of ruins and temples that serve as a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists. Returning to Varanasi we make a stop at a local silk factory.

Day 12: Varanasi

Day 13: Varanasi - Mumbai

After breakfast and hotel check out we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Mumbai (AI 696 1115/1315 hrs). A transfer in Mumbai will take you to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 14: Mumbai

This morning after breakfast we take a cruise to visit Elephanta caves - Mumbai's premier tourist attraction. The rock-cut temples on peaceful Elephanta Island are thought to have been carved between 450 and 750 AD. The main cave contains large sculpted panels, including an astonishing 18-foot depiction of Shiva. Enjoy an afternoon sightseeing tour one of the most highly populated cities in the world, accommodating approximately 18 million people! Highlights include the Gateway of India and Marine drive.

Day 15: Mumbai

Checking out of your hotel today we transfer you to the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel for a spot of luxury for your final night in India. Make the most of the hotel's fine facilities or consider exploring Mumbai further with one of our Mumbai enhance options.

Day 16: Mumbai

Today marks the end of your wonderful adventure in India with On the Go Tours. After breakfast and hotel check out we will transfer you to the airport in time for your onward departure flight. End of services.
