We will collect you this morning from your hotel in Tirupati. Meet you driver and welcome to your on the go South India adventure. Today you drive to the seaside town of Mahabalipuram, famous for its shore temple. The city is also famous for handwoven silk. In the afternoon a tour of Mahabalipuram is in order, visit the huge rock-cut sculptures and mandapams that (pillared pavilions) date from the 5th to 8th centuries.
This morning we drive south to Pondicherry, a former French colony which exudes a Mediterranean aura - whitewashed residences, ornamental gardens and excellent French-Indian restaurants. Enjoy an afternoon tour of the lovely buildings, gardens and in particular the enormous Brihadishwara Temple and other interesting ports of call such as the Aurobindo Ashram.
Today we drive south to Trichy. Along the way we make an interesting stop to visit Tanjore, also known as Thanjavur, Tanjore is an ancient fortified town, with a glorious history dating back more than 1500 years. Thanjavur was the ancient capital of the Chola kings whose origins date back to the beginning of Christianity.
Spend the morning on a sightseeing tour of Trichy which has been ravaged by war through the centuries. A lasting legacy is the Rock Fort and its temples that you will visit this morning. Afternoon we drive to Madurai.
This morning enjoy your tour of Madurai. Highlights include the Sri Meenakshi Temple built in 1560 and the city’s busy bazaars. The afternoon is then free for you to further explore the city.
Today enjoy your scenic drive passing through rural South India seeing gorgeous tropical landscapes and mountains into Periyar National Park. Photo stops can be made at your choosing along the way.
There is plenty to do in and around Periyar. Perhaps enjoy a boat ride on Lake Periyar to spot herds of wild elephants or visit the nearby tea estates and spice plantation. Afternoon at leisure.
After breakfast we drive onward to Munnar - a quaint hill station nestled on the verdant slopes of tea plantations, that exudes a rare old world charm and reminds one of the days of the Raj in its elegant splendour. Arriving here enjoy a fascinating tour to a Tea Gardens that has it's own processing factory to learn how the leaves are processed.
Today we make our way to Kochi. This afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of the town including the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568, the Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese in 1555 and St Francis’ Church. A walking tour of Fort Cochin takes you through streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial architecture.
This morning, you’ll board a traditional Keralan rice boat for a journey through the backwaters in and around Allapuzha (Alleppey). The boat will cross shallow, palm-fringed lakes and cruise along peaceful canals where copra and cashews are loaded onto local boats. The on-board cook will prepare locally-inspired food. Relax, read and catch some sun as the boat plies it’s route.
Disembarking at Allapuzha, enjoy a scenic road down the coast through coconut plantation after coconut plantation to the beach side destination of Kovalam.
Today we drive India's most southern tip known as Kanyakumari, also known as Cape Comorin. The city has been around for thousands of years as it has been the city of culture, history, arts, economy and the hub of civilization for centuries. All of this you will explore and understand on your full day excursion.
This morning or afternoon enjoy a guided exploration of the nearby city of Trivandrum including highlights such as Padmanabhapuram Palace, Shri Padmanabhaswami Temple, Puthenmalika Palace Museum, the famous Museum Complex and more depending on time.
For your last day in Kovalam. Stroll for miles along white palm fringed sandy beaches, try sampling the local seafood and sipping cocktails on your sunlounger the perfect remedy to unwind.
We say goodbye with a transfer to Trivandrum Airport in time for your flight home.
