Day 1: Mumbai

Arrive Mumbai. You will be met and transferred to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure. Mumbai - or Bombay, as it was formerly known - remains India’s city of dreams. Despite extreme poverty and eye-watering pollution, it is so dynamic that paupers still flock there in the hope of becoming successful entrepreneurs. Built largely by the British around one of the best-protected natural harbours in the world, Mumbai is India’s strategic economic centre. The city is also is home to the country’s prolific Bollywood film industry, which cranks out more feature flms than any place in the world and of course the setting for the hit flm ‘Slum Dog Millionaire’.

Gateway to India

Day 2: Mumbai

This afternoon city tour leads us to the Gateway of India – a former colonial monument and now a popular emblem of the city and a hubbub of life. The gate was built 1924-1927 to commemorate King George V’s visit in 1911. The biggest museum in India is next door - the Prince of Wales Museum. Sample bhelpuri (Mumbai’s favourite snack) at Chowpatty Beach along what is known as Marine Drive. It’s one of the city’s mot popular promenades. We also visit Mani Bhavan, the outside of Jain Temple, Dhobi Talao, the Hanging Gardens and Crawford Markets. This afternoon at leisure.

Day 3: Mumbai - Kolkata

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Kolkata, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore Kolkata or relax at the hotel.

Day 4: Kolkata

The graft of a European city imposed on an Asian landscape lends Kolkata a bewitching blend of colour, charm and excitement. The city is a compelling medley of ancient and modern with its skyscrapers and Raj-era architecture. It’s colourful, effervescent and overflowing with life and tradition. Enjoy a city sights tour including a visit to the imposing Victoria Memorial. Opened by the Prince of Wales in 1921, this vision in marble is often called the “Taj” of the British Raj. We also visit the stately Indian Museum founded in 1814 and the oldest and largest in India, St Paul’s Cathedral and the extraordinary Marble Palace which houses paintings by Rubens, Titian and Reynolds. Continuing on, we visit St. John's Church and drive past Howrah Bridge, then onto see River Side Fort and Dalhousie Square.

Day 5: Kolkata - Darjeeling

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bagdogra, where you will be met and transferred roughly 3 hours to Darjeeling.

Day 6: Darjeeling

Sitting at a spectacular altitude of 2124m with a backdrop of mighty snow-clad Himalayan peaks and surrounded by verdant tea plantations, Darjeeling has been a popular hill station since the British established it as an R & R centre for their troops in the mid 19th century. Draw cards include a number of Buddhist monasteries, tea plantations and colourful markets. we enjoy a drive to Tiger Hill to catch sunrise over the snowy peaks of Kanchenjunga - the world’s third highest mountain. Continuing, enjoy a visit to the Ghoom Gompa (monastery) and Batasis Loop before visiting the Happy Valley Tea Estate. This afternoon at leisure.

Day 7: Darjeeling

This morning, we enjoy a Toy Train ride from Darjeeling to Ghoom (subject to operation of this train amd availability of the seats). On our return to Darjeeling, we visit Druk Thupten Sangag Choling Monestry (Dali Monestry). This afternoon, enjoy a Ropeway ride in Darjeeling Rangit Valley.

Day 8: Darjeeling

Transfer to Bagdogra airport for your flight to Delhi. END OF SERVICES.
