Day 1: Mumbai

Welcome to India and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours. Upon your arrival at the International airport in Mumbai, our local rep will be there to greet you and transfer you to your hotel (your hotel room is booked for the night of the 23rd August in preparation for your early morning arrival). Later this afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour one of the most highly populated cities in the world, accommodating approximately 18 million people! Highlights include the Prince of Wales Museum, Gateway of India and Marine drive. Spend the evening at Chowpatty.

Day 2: Mumbai

Enjoy a day with a guide and driver to explore Parsi related places in Mumbai.

Day 3: Mumbai - Kochi

Today offers more free time for you to enjoy Mumbai independently (no car/driver provided). Later this evening we will transfer you to the railway station for your overnight train journey to Kochi - Train No 12223 [1st AC Sleeper class] to Kochi departs at 20:50 hours. (Please note a 2 berth cabin will be requested but cannot be guaranteed).

Day 4: Kochi

Enjoy the scenes from the carriage window as the train plies its course south. Arriving into Kochi railway station at 17:40 our local rep will be there to collect you and transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 5: Kochi

The commercial city of Kochi, also called “The Queen of the Arabian Sea” is famous for its exquisite designer Gold Jewellery. The Indian Navy, the Port and the Airport share the largely man-made Willingdon Island. The touring today includes the visit to Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese for a local King in 1555 A.D. The famous Jew Street, a cul-de-sac leading to the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568. A walking tour of Fort Cochin will take you through the streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch & British colonial architecture, including a few old trading factories, the only ones still standing anywhere in the world. Tonight enjoy an evening visit to watch the local speciality of Kathakali dance performance.

Day 6: Kochi

Today you will have a car at your disposal to get around Kochi during the Onam Festival, a traditional ten day harvest festival that marks the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali (no guide included).

Day 7: Kochi

Free day at leisure.

Day 8: Kochi

Today you will be driven to Alleppey to board a traditional Keralan rice boat for a half day journey through the backwaters in and around Allapuzha (Alleppey). The boat will cross shallow, palm-fringed lakes and cruise along peaceful canals where copra and cashews are loaded onto local boats. The on-board cook will prepare locally-inspired food for lunch. Relax, read and catch some sun as the boat plies its route. Disembarking back at Alleppey, we will transfer you to your hotel in Kochi.

Day 9: Kochi - Colombo

Today we will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Our local team will be at the airport to greet you upon arrival and transfer you to your accommodation.

Day 10: Colombo

Today, your guide will take you on a driving tour of colourful Colombo. Just off the north end of Galle Road, is the area known as the Fort, once a colonial stronghold. Just south of the Fort is Galle Face Green, a seaside expanse where informal cricket games are played out. We also visit Pettah, the traditional bazaar district, Gangarama Temple, Independence Square and Kelaniya Temple, a Buddhist temple in Kelaniya, 7 miles from Colombo.

Day 11: Colombo - Kandy

After breakfast at your hotel, we travel to Kandy. In the afternoon, enjoy a city sightseeing tour of this scenic lakeside town, visiting the lake, bazaar, gem museum and lapidary. In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and enjoy a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.

Day 12: Kandy

Today we travel to visit the indigenous Mahiyanganaya Veddas people. Here we visit the ancient Mahiyngana stupa, one of the sixteen most venerated Buddhist stupas of Sri Lanka. It is believed Buddha’s hair relic is enshrined within the ancient Mahiyangana. (Please note that 'interviews' and subject to negotiations on the day but ample time will be given to explore).

Day 13: Kandy - Colombo

After a leisurely breakfast, we travel back to Colombo for your final night in Sri Lanka. The afternoon is free at your leisure.

Day 14: Colombo

Today you bid a fond farewell to Sri Lanka. We will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight to Mumbai. Here you will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel. Vehicle and driver will be at your disposal for touring and shopping until 5pm. This evening we will transfer you back to the airport for your flight home.
