Day 1: Bangalore

Welcome to incredible India! Once you arrive into Bangalore airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day can be spent at leisure.

Day 2: Bangalore - Mysore

With its salubrious climate, tree-lined avenues, trendy downtown, and the software flood, Bangalore offers a picture of striking contrasts. There are old beautiful bungalows, parks, hallowed places of worship and traditional market-places on the one hand, balancing with fashionable shopping malls, pubs, new architectural wonders and modern looking religious centres on the other. Enjoy a morning city tour before transferring to Mysore (approx. 3hrs drive).

Day 3: Mysore

Mysore has a number of magnificent palaces and beautiful gardens and this morning you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city. Highlights include the impressive Maharaja's Palace - the official residence of the former royal family of Mysore. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Mysore - Ooty

This morning we drive to the tea-planters' town of Coonoor where you will embark on a scenic toy train journey to Ooty (MTP UAM PASSR, 1040/1200). From here we will transfer you to your hotel where you can spend the afternoon at leisure.

Day 5: Ooty

This morning enjoy a city tour of Ooty. Also known as Udhagamandalam, Ooty is the "Queen of hill stations" and the capital of Nilgiris district. We also visit a local tea plantation for a look at how tea is picked and produced in a region that is renowned for its tea.

Day 6: Ooty - Coimbatore

After a leisurely morning we drive you the short distance to the industrial city of Coimbatore. Rest of day free for you to independently explore.

Day 7: Coimbatore - Madurai

This morning we transfer to Madurai (approx. 4hrs drive), one of the oldest cities in South Asia. Hotel check in and afternoon at leisure.

Day 8: Madurai

Madurai has been around since the dawn of civilisation in southern India. A bustling city jam-packed with rickshawallas, pilgrims and traders and resembling a seemingly continuous bazaar crammed to the gunnels with shops, markets and lodgings for tourists and pilgrims. Sightseeing tour includes the Sri Meenakshi Temple built in 1560 and the city’s busy bazaars. This evening, we will take you to witness the ceremony at a local temple.

Day 9: Madurai - Tanjore

This morning we drive to Tanjore (approx. 3hr drive) for an afternoon sightseeing tour. Our city tour includes the enormous Brihadishwara Temple. Built by Raja Raja in 1010, the World Heritage protected temple has a dome weighing an estimated 80 tonnes which was hauled into place along an earth ramp in a manner similar to that used for the Egyptian pyramids. We also visit Trichy, which has been ravaged by war through the centuries. A lasting legacy is the Rock Fort and its temples.

Day 10: Tanjore - Pondicherry

Transfer to Pondicherry for a sightseeing tour, which includes the enormous Brihadishwara Temple before continuing south. Arrive at Tanjore, also known as Thanjavur, Tanjore is an ancient fortified town, with a glorious history dating back more than 1500 years. Thanjavur was the ancient capital of the Chola kings whose origins date back to the beginning of Christianity.

Day 11: Pondicherry - Mahabalipuram

Departing Pondicherry we head north to the small seaside town of Mahabalipuram where you can spend the afternoon on the white-sand beach relaxing.

Day 12: Mahabalipuram

Touring the town’s sites to the rhythm of chisels chipping granite provides evidence of the strong stone carving traditions that have endured since the 8th century - Pallava dynasty. Visiting the beautiful ancient stone carved Shore Temple, presiding over the long, flat beach we discover high wall friezes, intricately carved bas reliefs and shrines dedicated to both Siva and Vishnu. It is also of interest to inspect the east facing alter designed to catch the rising sun and the large stone pillar with mountings to hold a beacon for sailors at night out at sea.

Day 13: Mahabalipuram - Chennai

Enjoy the morning at leisure before we transfer you to Chennai. Hotel check in and remainder of the afternoon free.

Day 14: Chennai

This morning embark on a city tour taking in the main sights with the remainder of the day free for you to explore independently.

Day 15: Chennai

Today we transfer you to the airport in time for your flight to Ahmedabad (SG 282, 1225/1450, Economy). End of services.
