Day 1: Delhi
Namaste! Welcome to India and New Delhi the capital city of India. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel with the rest of the day yours to relax after your long flight.
Day 2: Delhi
Today we explore both Old and New Delhi - the order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the unorganised chaos of the Old City. But both are just as appealing. Highlights we be the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation and more. Enjoy a Rickshaw ride to the Old Streets.
Day 3: Delhi - Amritsar
Departure transfer to the train station for your train to Amritsar (2029 Swarna Shatbadi departs at 0720 and arrives at 1325 hrs in Air Conditioned Chair Car). When you arrive into Amritsar station our local representative will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Evening at leisure.
Day 4: Amritsar
Today a visit to the Famous Golden Temple the seat of the Sikh religion. Built in 1803 and made of marble, copper and pure leaf gold, the temple is an amazing architectural feat. Also you will enjoy a visit to Wagah - the only border crossing between India and Pakistan for the sunset ‘Retreat’ ceremony, where the changing of the guards & ceremonial lowering of the flags is performed with great pomp.
Day 5: Amritsar - Chandigarh
Today enjoy the drive to the city of Chandigarh(5 hours) which is known internationally for its architecture and urban planning as it is the first planned city of India. In the afternoon you will see this first hand with a guided tour of the city. The evening is free and at your leisure.
Day 6: Chandigarh - Shimla
Taking to the road again we head to the Himalaya foot hills in Kalka the embarkation point for the famous Toy train that will take you up winding precarious steep drops and spectacular views to Shimla. Arriving into Shimla our local representative will meet you at the train station and transfer you to your hotel.
Day 7: Shimla
Today the day is free to enjoy a leisurely walking tour of Shimla on your own without a vehicle. Ventur into the narrow streets, which fall steeply away from the ridge giving way to colourful bazaars and fine views of the surrounding valley and snow-capped peaks.
Day 9: Shimla - Mussoorie
Continuing our journey through the spectacular mountain scenery we drive around eight hours to Mussoorie. When you arrive check in to your hotel and remainder of the evening free and at your leisure.
Day 10: Mussoorie
Enjoy a full day to explore the city and surrounding area at your leisure. You will have a vehicle at your discretion to use within city limits.
Day 11: Mussoorie - Haridwar
Continuing on we journey the holy city of Haridwar. Arrival and check into your hotel. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.
Day 12: Haridwar
Enjoy a full day to explore the city and surrounding area at your leisure. You will have a vehicle at your discretion to use within city limits.
Day 13: Haridwar - Nainital
Continuing on we journey to Nainital. Arrival and check into your hotel remainder of day at leisure.
Day 14: Nainital
Enjoy a free day to explore the magnificent views of the vast plain to the south, or of the mass of tangled ridges lying north, bounded by the great snowy range which forms the central axis of the Himalayas. Vehicle will be at your discretion to use within city limits.
Day 15: Nainital - Delhi
Free morning. Later in the afternoon we will drive you to Kathgodam station for the overnight train-5014 Ranikhet Express departing at 2040. 2nd Class Air Conditioned Sleeper.
Day 16: Delhi - Kumarakom
Welcome back to Delhi! Arriving at 04:50 we have use of a hotel in Delhi so you can freshen up. We then transfer you to the airport for the flight to Kochi. Flight number S2 241, departs at 0925 and arrives at 13:25. Our local representative will there waiting to meet you for your onward transfer to Kumarakom.
Day 17: Kumarakom - Alleppey
This morning we board a simply furnished private rice boat for a journey through the backwaters to Alleppey. Crewed by a poler to push the rice boat through the water, a distance of some 20 kms will be covered, during which time the boat will glide past colourful local villages. As for dining, the on board cook will prepare meals using fresh local produce.
Day 18: Alleppey - Kochi
After breakfast, you will disembark from the houseboat and be transferred to your hotel in Kochi.
Day 19: Kochi
Today enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of the town including Fort Kochi, Synagogue, Dutch Palace and St Francis' Church. In the evening you will be treated to a traditional Kathkali dance performance.
Day 20: Kochi - Ooty
Departing Kochi we journey into the heart of south India and Nilgiri Hills to arrive Ooty also known as the Queen of Hill Stations. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.
Day 21: Ooty
Day at leisure to explore Ooty on your own. Chauffeur driven vehicle at your disposal to use within city limits.
Day 22: Ooty - Chennai
Driving through the lush south we continue to Coimbatore. Arriving here we enjoy time for dinner at a nice local restaurant. After dinner we will transfer you to the station for the overnight sleeper train to Chennai. (2674 Cheran Express departs at 2220 and arrives the next day at 0635 hrs. 1st class Air Conditioned sleeper)
Day 23: Chennai
Arrive into Chennai at 0635 hrs and departure transfer to the International Airport for your flight back home. (if your flight is later we can at extra cost organise a tour or room for you to relax in)
