Day 1: Kolkata
Welcome to India and the start of your holiday! Arrive Kolkata, included transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Kolkata
Today enjoy a sightseeing tour of Kolkata which includes a visit to the Indian Museum, Flower market, Howrah Bridge, Jain Temple and Victoria Memorial. Opened by the Prince of Wales in 1921, this imposing vision in marble often called the “Taj” of the British Raj overlooks the grassy Maidan, the city’s green belt.
Day 3: Kolkata - New Jalpaiguri
Enjoy the day to independently explore Kolkata. Early this evening we will transfer you to the railway station for the overnight sleeper train to New Jalpaiguri. train 2343, Darjeeling Mail departs at 2205 and arrives at 0800. 1st class air conditioned sleeper.
Day 4: New Jalpaiguri - Darjeeling
Arrive New Jalpaiguri and you will be met and driven to Darjeeling by car. This popular hill station sits at a spectacular altitude with a panoramic backdrop of the mighty snow-clad Himalayan peaks and surrounded by verdant tea plantations.
Day 5: Darjeeling
Early this morning, enjoy a drive to Tiger Hill to catch sunrise over the snowy peaks of Kanchenjunga - the world’s third highest mountain. Continuing, enjoy a visit to the Ghoom Gompa monastery followed by city sightseeing tour and a visit to a tea estate.
Day 6: Darjeeling - Varanasi
Free morning. Later we will drive you to New Jalpaiguri railway station for the train to Mughal Sarai (Varanasi). The North-East Express train to Varanasi departs at 1720 and arrives at 0800. 2nd Class Air conditioned sleeper (no 1st class cabins on this sector)
Day 7: Varanasi
Arriving early this morning at Mughalsarai, it is a short drive to Varanasi. Varanasi, also known as the Benares is the holiest Hindu pilgrimage destination in India. Abundant with temples and streets that resemble a mass of tangled shoe laces it is one of India’s most colourful and exciting cities. This afternoon, enjoy a city sightseeing tour.
Day 8: Varanasi - Agra
This morning, enjoy a boat ride on the holy river Ganges to witness sunrise and the ancient religious tradition of ritual cleansing that takes place on the famous riverside ghats (steps) that line the banks. This afternoon, consider an optional excursion to Sarnath to see the site of Buddha’s first sermon. This evening, board the Magadh Express train to Tundla(Agra) departing at 2235. 1st class air conditioned sleeper.
Day 9: Agra
We arrive at Agra railway station at 0500 hours, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Later enjoy a visit to Agra Fort. Some of India’s finest Mughal buildings sit behind it’s fortified walls
Day 10: Agra - Delhi
This morning we visit the Taj Mahal, a wonderful and peaceful time to appreciate the beauty of this monument. Later this afternoon you will be driven to Delhi to catch the Kalka Mail departing at 2250 and arrives the next day at 0500. 1st class air conditioned sleeper.
Day 11: Delhi - Shimla
Arrive Kalka at 0500 and take the toy train on your own. Train 241-Shivalik Express departs at 0530 and arrives at 1030 in Norma Chair Car. Arrive Shimla and you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 12: Shimla
Shimla, the old summer capital of British India, sprawls along a crescent shaped ridge at an altitude of over 2100m. The famous ‘Mall’ lined with stately English houses, Christ Church, Gorton Castle and the former Viceregal Lodge reinforces Shimla’s English flavour. Free day and at your leisure.
Day 13: Shimla - Delhi
Leaving Shimla, you will be driven to Kalka where this afternoon you will board the Shatabdi Express train bound for Delhi. Train 2012 Kalka Shatabdi departs at 1745 and arrives at 2155. Air conditioned chair car. Arrive Delhi and you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 14: Delhi - Nainital
Today enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Old Delhi - the Red Fort, Jama Masjid mosque and the bazaars of Chandni Chowk. This afternoon, enjoy the sights of New Delhi - the majestic India Gate, Rajpath,Humayun's tomb, Lutyen's buildings, Qutab Minar and Connaught Place. Transfer to the station for the overnight train to Kathgodam. Ranikhet Express departs at 2240 and arrives at 0520. 1st Class air conditioned sleeper.
Day 15: Nainital
Arrive Kathgodam at 0520 and you will be met and driven to Nainital (1 hour drive). Arrive Nainital and transfer to your hotel.
Day 16: Nainital
Day free at leisure with a vehicle at your disposal to be used within city limits with a Guide.
Day 17: Nainital
Departure Transfer to Kathgodam Station for your train to Delhi. Train 5036 UTR SAMPARK EXP departs at 0850 and arrives at 1525 hrs. Air Conditioned Chair Car. Arrive Delhi at 1525 hrs and transfer to Hotel for Day Use room at Hans Plaza. Transfer to the Airport in time for your flight back home.
