Namaste! Welcome to India and New Delhi the capital city of India. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel with the rest of the day yours to relax after your long flight.
Today we explore both Old and New Delhi. The order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the unorganised chaos of the Old City, but both are just as appealing. Highlights will be the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, and Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation.
Today is the day to shop till you drop! We are giving you a free day to roam and explore the city until your heart is content and your wallets empty. Later in the day we transfer you to the railway station for your overnight train to the holy city of Varanasi.
Enjoy the morning at your leisure after your arrival. Later in the afternoon we will take you on a guided sightseeing tour to visit the famous Buddhist holy sight of Sarnath. Sarnath is located at 10 Kms from Varanasi where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon to the five holy men, preaching the middleway to final 'NIRVANA’. In the evening, witness the Arti ceremony on the Ganges with a guide.
This morning, we enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the holy Ganges where we’ll view the ancient religious tradition of ritual cleansing that takes place on the many riverbank ghats (riverside steps). Later in the morning we will take you to the airport for your short flight to Khajuraho. In the afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Chandela Dynasty temples built between 950-1050 AD. Immortalised in stone, the carved temples depict Indian life a millennium ago, including erotic scenes from the Kama Sutra.
After breakfast we will drive you Jhansi, stopping in Orcha enroute to explore the well preserved complex of palaces and temples it is famous for. Arriving in Jhansi we board the Shatabdi Express which departs at 17:55 and arrives in Agra at 20:55. On arrival in Agra, you will be transferred to your hotel.
This morning we explore Agra and head out to visit Agra fort, built under the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565. It contains numerous palaces and a white marble mosque, with Itmad-ud-Daulah’s tomb a marble forerunner to the Taj. We also visit the Baby Taj. This afternoon is time at your leisure.
Today we rise early to see the Taj Mahal in its ethereal morning light. Later today we will drive out to the ghostly fortifed city of Fatehpur Sikri, abandonded only 8 years after its construction due to droughts in the area. Continuing on you will arrive in Jaipur, 'The Pink City'.
This morning we visit the delicate pink, magnificent fort-palace of Amber - a wonderful example of Rajput architecture just north of Jaipur. Subject to Government regulations, we will arrive in style atop an elephant! Enjoy an afternoon sightseeing tour of the city. Rest of the evening is free and at your leisure.
An interesting 6hr drive through increasingly varied scenery takes us to Jodhpur, a town at the edge of the mighty Thar Desert. Dominated by Meherangarh Fort which sits majestically atop a hill, Jodhpur is known as the Blue City. This is because of the coloured houses in the old town, painted indigo.
Today you will enjoy some touring in this colourful Rajasthani city, taking in the mighty Mehrangarh Fort & Cenotaphs as well as the bazaars of the old city which are gathered around the city’s tall clock tower. This afternoon is at your leisure to enjoy your hotels facilities or further exploration of the city.
We leave Jodhpur today after breakfast and make our way to the 17th century fort village of Rawla Narlai. Take in the spiritual energy from the invigorating air descending from the Shiva Temple, lodged deep in a primal cave high on the hill. The village is caught in a time warp, since the Royal family moved back to the Kingdom of Jodhpur. Life has continued much as it was then in Narlai.
