Early morning we collect you from your hotel and transfer to the railway station to board the Shatabdi Express train to Amritsar (air-conditioned chair car). You will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel. Afternoon is at leisure.
This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of the historic Amritsar, including the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh. Later afternoon This we travel approximately 28km to Wagah, which is the only border crossing between India and Pakistan. Visiting Wagah is an interesting experience especially at sunset when the ‘Retreat’ ceremony takes place with the BSF on the Indian Side of the Border. The changing of the guards and the ceremonial lowering of the flags ceremony is carried out with great pomp
Early morning train to Chandigarh - Arrival car transfer to Shimla - Arrival there check into your hotel. Remainder of day at leisure.
Today we will leave you to your own devices to explore and venture into the narrow streets, which fall steeply away from the ridge giving way to colourful bazaars and fine views of the surrounding valley and snow-capped peaks.
This morning we transfer you to the train station to catch the Toy Train to Kalka so sit back and enjoy the journey down the mountain. Arriving into Kalka you walk across the platform and embark the express train to Delhi - Arrival in Delhi LATE PM - Transfer to your hotel.
Early morning express train to Agra - Enjoy guided tour of the Taj Mahal - Agra Fort. Evening at leisure to enjoy your hotel.
Leaving Agra by car we head to Jaipur en route to we visit the ghostly former Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, abandoned due to lack of water. We enjoy lunch at Udai Vilas Palace in Bharatpur, before taking a walk through the nearby rural village Peharsar then drive to Jaipur arrival and check into your hotel.
Look out for the snake charmers that dot our route, as we travel to the 16th century Amber Fort. An exotic elephant ride transports us to the lofty fort, where we’ll enjoy a tour of this Rajput extravaganza. Later in the afternoon we tour the City Palace, which boasts an interesting museum of regal attire and Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory.
Enjoy the morning free to explore Jaipur at your leisure the shopping is very good for textiles here. When ready we transfer you to Delhi and check into your hotel.
Today we transfer to the airport for your 7 AM flight to Coimbatore - Arrival there and assisted transfer to Mettupalayam and check into your hotel.
Early morning transfer to Mettupalayam railway station for the Nilgiri Blue Mountains railway toy train to Ooty. At a maximum speed of 33km/hour, this ‘toy train’ treks across plains, plantation and forest clad hills. The 16 tunnels and tall girder bridges on the way, along with the breathtaking view, make this toy train journey to Ooty, something not to be missed! Beginning at Mettupalayam, you cover 46kms in 4 hours, enjoying the view along the way. The train is unusual in the fact that the engine pushes its carriages rather than pulls them along.
There is no sightseeing included at Ooty but the vehicle will remain at your disposal for sightseeing the nearby places such as waterfalls, tea estates and more.
Morning transfer to Coimbatore by road then catch the express train to Ernakulam - arrival there we transfer you to your hotel.
This morning we enjoy a guided tour of historic Fort Kochi. We see the elegant Chinese fishing nets and explore the winding streets of the old town, visiting St Francis’ Church, Parsi Synagogue (exterior only) and a Dutch palace. This evening we enjoy seeing the traditional dance form performance of South India known as Kathakali.
This morning we take you to Alleppey the embarkation point for your house boat through the backwaters of Kerala. we board a simply furnished private rice-boat for a journey through the lush backwaters. Our private rice-boat takes us sedately along the enchanting palm-fringed backwaters, covering a distance of some 20 kms, during which time the boat glides past local villages and fascinating scenes of everyday rural life.
After lunch on board we disembark and transfer you to your beach side hotel in Kovlam bay.
The next two days in India with us really relax. Stroll for miles along white palm fringed sandy beaches, try sampling the local seafood and sipping cocktails on your sunlounger the perfect remedy to unwind.
