Namaste. Welcome to India and the start of your holiday. Our representative to greet you upon your arrival and assist with your hotel transfer. Later today we explore both Old and New Delhi - the order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the unorganised chaos of the Old City. But both are just as appealing. Highlights include the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation and more.
After breakfast we depart Delhi, and drive to Jaipur. Arriving here we transfer you to your hotel and the rest of the afternoon is yours at leisure before our full day of touring tomorrow.
This morning we visit the delicate pink, magnificent fort-palace of Amber - a wonderful example of Rajput architecture just north of Jaipur. Subject to Government regulations, we will arrive in style riding on an elephant! In the afternoon you will enjoy a tour of the city. Highlights include the City Palace, which boasts an interesting museum of regal attire and Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory.
After breakfast we will head off to Agra, home to of India's most famous monuments - the Taj Mahal. En route we will also pay a visit to the ghostly former Moghul city of Fatehpur Sikri - the fortified ghost city abandoned soon after its construction because of water shortages in the area. Arriving in Agra, we head out to visit the beautiful Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
This morning we transfer to the train station for your departure to Jhansi where you will be meet and continue via road onto Orchha. Orchha is situated on the banks of the River Betwa and is famed for temples built by the 16th century Bundela rulers. This afternoon you will get to see this first hand as our guide takes you around.
Today we continue by road to Khajuraho, famed for its stunning temples built in the Chandela dynasty over a 100 year burst of creative genius from 950 - 1050AD. The carved temples display exceedingly artistic aspects of Indian life a millennium ago. How and why they were built still remains a mystery.
After a leisurely breakfast, we transfer to the airport for your flight to Varanasi. Our local representative will greet you upon arrival and assist with your transfer to your airport. This evening we visit the ghats (riverside steps) on the River Ganges to experience the evening pilgrimage known Ganga Aarti, a religious ritual of worship.
This morning enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the holy Ganges where the ancient religious tradition of ritual cleansing that takes place on the many riverbank ghats, a remarkably different experience to the evening ritual. Later, enjoy a guided tour of the city and Sarnath, the famous Buddhist holy sight.
After breakfast and hotel check out, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight back to Delhi, arriving at approximately 1330, to connect with your international flight.
