Day 1: Kolkata

Welcome to India and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours. Upon your arrival into Kolkata's international airport you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel for check in (early check in will be requested but cannot be guaranteed as subject to availability). Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Kolkata

The city is a compelling medley of ancient and modern with its skyscrapers and Raj-era architecture. It’s colourful, effervescent and overflowing with life and tradition. Enjoy a city sights tour including a visit to the imposing Victoria Memorial. Opened by the Prince of Wales in 1921, this vision in marble is often called the “Taj” of the British Raj. We also visit the New Market – a bazaar on Chowringhee Road, the stately Indian Museum founded in 1814 and the oldest and largest in India, St Paul’s Cathedral and the extraordinary Marble Palace which houses paintings by Rubens, Titian and Reynolds.

Day 3: Kolkata

Day 4: Kolkata - Sunderbans National Park

Departing Kolkata today we make our way to the Sunderbans National Park (journey time approximately 3 hours). The Sundarban National Park is a National Park, Tiger Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve in West Bengal. Upon arrival check in to your jungle camp. The Sunderbans Jungle Camp is located on Bali Island in the remote southern stretches of West Bengal’s Gangetic Delta

Days 5-6: Sunderbans National Park

Over the next two days enjoy a range of activities offered by the camp. Activities included river cruises, hikes to local villages and animal safaris.

Day 7: Sunderbans National Park - Siliguri

Departing the Sunderbans National Park this morning we transfer you by road to the railway station in Kolkata for your afternoon train to New Jalpaiguiri (Shtabadi Express, 1415/2220, AC Chair Car). The journey from Sunderbans to New Jalpaiguiri is around 3 hours. Upon your arrival in New Jalpaiguiri you will be met and transferred to Siliguiri for the night (approximately 15 minute drive). Overnight at the Royal Sarovar Premiere Hotel.

Day 8: Siliguri - Kalimpong

Departing Siliguri this morning we transfer you to Kalimpong (approximately 2.5 hour drive). Check in to your hotel. Kalimpong, a remote hill station, once part of Sikkim and one-time meeting point on the trade route to Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal, sits amid beautiful mountain scenery where orchids and other flowers grow in profusion. Great views can be had of Kanchenjunga and the town possesses several important monasteries, including the brightly painted Zong Dog Palri Phodrang Gompa (simply known as Durpin Monastery) and Thirpai Choling Gompa founded in 1892 and recently renovated. You’ll have the day to enjoy the town at your own pace.

Day 9: Kalimpong - Gangtok

Leaving Kalimpong we drive to Gangtok where the remains of the day are at leisure. Capital of Sikkim, a tiny Himalayan state known for its orchids and flowers and for the heavy influence of Tibetan culture, Gangtok although rapidly developing is still full of charm, thanks to its Buddhist past. Beyond the busy market areas, lie monastic complexes and striking countryside.

Day 10: Gangtok

Today visit beautiful Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim’s largest and most active monastery, which is located in a lower valley. We then tour Gangtok taking in the Royal Monastery – Tsuklakhang, the Institute of Tibetology and the Orchid Sanctuary. Built in 1958, the Research Institute of Tibetology is world famous for its research activities on the language and culture of Tibet; possessing a faculty of eminent scholars, a library with a large collection of documents and rare books on Buddhism and an attached museum with a rare collection of antiques, coins and Tibetan paintings.

Day 11: Gangtok - Pelling

Leaving Gangtok, we drive to Pelling (approximately 4.5 hour drive). The quiet, relatively new town of Pelling is situated 2085m above sea level and is most notable for its expansive views north towards the glaciers and peaks of Kanchenjunga.

Day 12: Pelling

Today we will head out and explore Pelling starting with a morning visit to Khecheopalri Lake, known as the 'Wishing Lake'. Surrounded by dense forests and hidden in a mountain bowl, the lake is sacred to Lepchas - the indigenous people of Sikkim. Later this afternoon we visit the Buddhist Pemayngst Monastery and Rabten Se.

Day 13: Pelling - Darjeeling

Enjoy a leisurely morning before we transfer you by road to Darjeeling (a drive of approximately 3 hours). Sitting at a spectacular altitude of 2124m with a backdrop of mighty snow-clad Himalayan peaks and surrounded by verdant tea plantations, Darjeeling has been a popular hill station since the British established it as an R & R centre for their troops in the mid 19th century. Draw cards include a number of Buddhist monasteries, tea plantations and colourful markets. Hotel check in and remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 14: Darjeeling

Early this morning enjoy a drive to Tiger Hill to catch sunrise over the snowy peaks of Kanchenjunga - the world’s third highest mountain. Next we board a toy train for our journey to Ghoom Gompa monastery. Return back to Darjeeling later today.

Day 15: Darjeeling

Today enjoy a guided city tour of Darjeeling which includes a visit to a Tibetan refugee camp.

Day 16: Darjeeling - Varanasi

Departing Darjeeling this morning we transfer by road to New Jalpaiguri station for your overnight train to Varanasi (North East express, 1715/0705, 2nd Class AC). The drive from Darjeeling to New Jalpaiguri is around 3 hours).

Day 17: Varanasi

Arriving into Mughal Sarai this morning you will be met and transferred to your hotel (45 minute drive) for check in and some time to freshen up after your overnight journey. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Later this evening enjoy an Aarti ceremony along the Ganges River.

Day 18: Varanasi

This morning, we enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the holy Ganges where we’ll view the ancient religious tradition of ritual cleansing that takes place on the many riverbank ghats (riverside steps). Later, we embark on a tour of the city and Sarnath. At sunset consider re-visiting the ghats for the evening pilgramage, remarkably different from the dawn ritual.

Day 19: Varanasi - Kolkata

The morning is at leisure. Later this afternoon we transfer you to the airport for your flight back to Kolkata (9W 2894, 1750/1940, Economy Class). Upon your arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Day 20: Kolkata

Today marks the end of your adventure with On the Go Tours. After breakfast and hotel check out we will transfer you to the airport for your onward departure flight. End of services.
