Welcome to Kochi and the start of your India holiday with us. After you have passed through customs and bagage collection we will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel.
The touring today includes the visit to Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese for a local King in 1555 A.D. The famous Jew Street, a cul-de-sac leading to the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568. A walking tour of Fort Cochin will take you through the streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch & British colonial architecture, including a few old trading factories, the only ones still standing anywhere in the world. After a rest in the afternoon we will take you to see a Kathakali dance performance the tradtional dance is dated back 400 Years.
Today we drive east to to Munnar - a quaint hill station nestled on the verdant slopes of tea plantations, that exudes a rare old world charm and reminds one of the days of the Raj in its elegant splendour. At a height of 1525 metres, Munnar offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills.
Today we take a short drive south to Periyar, South India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary and home to bison, antelopes, sambar, wild boar, birds and even the odd tiger! There is plenty to do in and around Periyar, so we leave the choice to you. Arrive Periyar and we will transfer you to your hotel for the night. Rest of the day is free and at your leisure.
Today you will enjoy a tranquil boat ride, drift silently along the water's of Lake Periyar, spotting wild elephent herds and many of the varied wildlife the park has to offer. Rest of the day at leisure
Today a short drive to Kumakoram. Perched sleepily on the eastern banks of the mighty Lake Vembanad in the heartland of Kerala’s famed backwaters, Kumarakom has changed little since the Middle Ages but for it’s string of exotic resorts, making it the perfect point to explore the backwaters. Although right in the thick of a tangle of lush tropical waterways, Kumarakom is technically an island on Lake Vembanad.
This morning we journey by road where you will board a traditional Keralan rice boat for a journey through the backwaters in and around Allapuzha (Alleppey). The boat will cross shallow, palm-fringed lakes and cruise along peaceful canals where copra and cashews are loaded onto local boats. The on-board cook will prepare locally-inspired food. Relax, read and catch some sun as the boat plies it’s route.
Today we drive to Cochin railway station for train to Trivandrum (Kerala Express, 0945/1435, 2nd Class AC) Arrive Trivandrum, and drive to Kovalam. Remaining day free
