Today we visit Kanchipuram, one of sacred cities in India and the seaside town of Mahabalipuram, famous for its shore temple. The city is also famous for handwoven silk. In Mahabalipuram, the huge rock-cut sculptures and mandapams (pillared pavilions) date from the 5th to 8th centuries. You can enjoy a treatment or two at your ayurvedic hotel.
Drive south to Pondicherry along the way though we are going to head inland and visit the incredible ancient temples of Tiruvannamalai. Arriving into Pondicherry You can enjoy a treatment or two at your ayurvedic hotel.
Start the day with a sightseeing tour of Pondicherry which includes the enormous Brihadishwara Temple before returning to your hotel. Afternoon at leisure or perhaps you can enjoy a treatment or two at your Ayurvedic hotel.

Today we drive to Trichy. Stopping along the way to visit Tanjore, which is an ancient fortified town, with a glorious history dating back more than 1500 years. Thanjavur was the ancient capital of the Chola kings whose origins date back to the beginning of Christianity.
Spend the morning on a sightseeing tour of Trichy. Our city tour includes the enormous Brihadishwara Temple. Built by Raja Raja in 1010, the World Heritage protected temple has a dome weighing an estimated 80 tonnes which was hauled into place along an earth ramp in a manner similar to that used for the Egyptian pyramids. Trichy has been ravaged by war through the centuries. A lasting legacy is the Rock Fort and its temples. Afternoon at your leisure.
The journey continues south to Madurai. An important centre for worship and commerce, Madurai has been around since the dawn of civilisation in southern India. A bustling city jam-packed with rickshawallas, pilgrims and traders and resembling a seemingly continuous bazaar crammed to the gunnels with shops, markets and lodgings for tourists and pilgrims, Madurai is yours this afternoon. Go immerse yourself. This evening, you’ll witness a religious ceremony at a local temple with your local guide.
Enjoy a sightseeing tour. Highlights include the Sri Meenakshi Temple built in 1560 and the city’s busy bazaars. The afternoon is then free for you to further explore the city.

The journey continues to Periyar which has south India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary and home to sambar wild boar, elephant, bison, antelope, langur and a small tiger population. Kumily, close to the sanctuary and where you’ll stay, is a pretty town dotted with small spice and handicraft shops.

A drive north to Munnar - a quaint hill station nestled on the verdant slopes of tea plantations, that exudes a rare old world charm and reminds one of the days of the Raj in its elegant splendour. At a height of 1525 metres, Munnar offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills.
Enjoy a day with your guide exploring a few different Tea Plantations and processing plants all the while taking in the stunning scenery.

Today we head west to the coastal port city of Kochi. Arriving here, check into your hotel. This evening your guide will take for a boat ride in the port and then a walk on the promenade to see the famous Chinese Fishing nets.
This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of the town including the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568, the Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese in 1555 and St Francis’ Church. A walking tour of Fort Cochin takes you through streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial architecture. Afternoon/evening free.
A drive to Kumarakom. Perched sleepily on the eastern banks of the mighty Lake Vembanad in the heartland of Kerala’s famed backwaters, Kumarakom has changed little since the Middle Ages but for it’s string of exotic resorts, making it the perfect point to explore the backwaters. Although right in the thick of a tangle of lush tropical waterways, Kumarakom is technically an island on Lake Vembanad.
This is an ideal place to chill-out for a few days. There is also a wonderful bird sanctuary, winter home to many migratory birds which is worth a visit.
Today and tomorrow enjoy time at your hotel to relax and enjoy the facilities.
This morning board a simply furnished private rice boat for a journey through the backwaters to Alleppey. Crewed by a poler to push the rice boat through the water, a distance of some 20 kms will be covered, during which time the boat will glide past colourful local villages. As for dining, the on board cook will prepare meals using fresh local produce.
Disembarking at Alleppey today we drive to Kovalam for your relaxing ayurvedic beach stay.
