This morning, our Welcome Meeting takes place. We’ll then enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Old Delhi, taking in the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque. This afternoon why not further enhance your exploration of this busting city with an afternoon guided journey through the New Delhi area the highlights will include India gate a drive past parliamentary buildings and President's house, a guided visit to Humayun's tomb then concluding with sightseeing to UNESCO World Heritage Site Qutub minar. This morning your driver will take you back to the airport for the short flight to Varanasi - SG 116 - 0935 / 1100. On arrival your local rep will be waiting to take you to the hotel. This afternoon perhaps opt for a journey of discovery about how Buddha passed much time in Varanasi with a visit to Sarnath. Alternately enjoy free time to explore. This evening our local guide will take you to the river side steps to witness the evening ritual worship of the holy river Ganges.
Enjoy an early morning boat ride on the Ganges to view the sunrise, when seen from the boat can be a spiritually uplifting sight. From dawn to dusk the riverfront (Ghats) are thronged by thousands of devotees, who perform their holy rituals in the hope of attaining eternal salvation, the "NIRVANA". remainder of the day at leisure to explore this amazing city.
This morning a visit to Chunar, 40 kms from Varanasi, is a town with a huge fort overlooking the river Ganges. Former site of many battles, the fort not only has great views of the Ganges, but a sun dial, a huge well, prison an execution room. It is a good option to see the Ganges outside of the crowds in Varanasi. Tonight you travel by 2nd class a/c sleeper train to Umaria (highest class available on this service).
Your train arrives into Umaria in the morning to the start of a new day and the gathering hustle and bustle. Our rep will be waiting for you, but make sure you take a moment to try some chai, hot tea from one of the vendors, before we make our way into India's tiger country to Bandhavargh National Park. After check in you will venture out on your first game drive to see the amazing wildlife.
Bandhavgarh is set amidst the Vindhyan ranges. Claiming to have the highest density population of Bengal tiger in India, coupled with a population of leopard, nilgai, jackal, wild boar, sloth bear, gaur, sambar deer and colourful bird life, game drives are often peppered with sightings. For all days in the park enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in shared jeeps.
This morning we will depart from this wonderful park hopefully having seen some of the elusive tigers. Our drive will take us to the off the beaten path town of Chitrakoot. This morning you will drive to Jhansi and then travel to Agra by train (AC Chair Car Class), a must-do experience for any visitor young or old! The friendly locals will be vying for a chat with you. Arriving into Agra our local rep awaits to take you to your hotel.
Today in Agra, we visit the impressive Agra Fort before touring the legendary Taj Mahal and witnessing a glorious golden sunset. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in loving memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz, who tragically died in childbirth in 1631, the Taj Mahal in Agra is described as the most extravagant monument ever built for love and remains one of India’s most enduring symbols.
Today we will head to Jaipur, arrival and we will stay in the city in a lovely heritage hotel.
This morning you will have to look out for the snake charmers that dot our route, as we travel to the 16th century Amber Fort. An exotic elephant ride transports us to the lofty fort, where we’ll enjoy a tour of this Rajput extravaganza. This afternoon perhaps opt for a journey of discovery through the historic pink city of Jaipur we start with a photo stop in front of Jal mahal (lake palace) thereafter visit the ancient astronomical observatory of Jantar mantar and thereafter a guided tour of the city palace complex and it’s fascinating nooks and crannies. Morning we drive further into Rajasthan to Khimsar. Located 73 km N of Jodhpur and is a remote 15th century Rajput fort in the desert where Aurangzeb is believed to have stayed.The moated castle was built as a fortified home by Karam Singh, the 5th son of Rao Jodha. Enjoy the afternoon to explore at your leisure. (IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE TO JAISALMER IN ONE DAY)
Driving through the Rajasthani Thar desert we arrive at the medieval caravan outpost of Jaisalmer, one of the jewels in India’s crown. Exquisite wood and sandstone buildings dot the town and within Jaisalmer Fort are homes, hotels and shops hidden in ancient lane ways.
For today in this stunning Rajasthani fortress town we’ll enjoy half day touring then in the afternoon enjoy a safari by camel in the surrounding Sam sand dunes.
Taking to the road this morning we drive to Manvar and check into your remote safari camp in the middle of the sand dunes (Manvar offers better desert stays than those near Jaisalmer) Enjoy the afternoon at the camp and the activities they offer such as 4x4 trips, village visits, camel treks and more.
After breakfast we drive to Rohet Garh which is the fortified desert home of the descendants of the 16th century Rathore. Arrival and enjoy time at leisure to explore.
This morning with a guide enjoy a visit and the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, Old City clock tower, Sadar Market and the Royal Cenotaphs located in Jodhpur city. Remainder of the day at leisure to explore.
Leaving Rohet, we drive to visit Kumbalgarh fort, then onto Ranakpur, a small town tucked away in a remote valley and famed for its beautiful 14th century Jain temples. We’ll enjoy some exploration here and time to relax before driving onto Udaipur.
Today we’ll enjoy an evening cruise on Lake Pichola, plus touring of the imposing City Palace, not to mention free time to explore and perhaps shop for colourful Rajasthani souvenirs and Indian spices.
