Alleppey sunset

Day 1: Alleppey

Today we begin our short break on arrival at the houseboat dock in Alleppey. Alappuzha is the known as ‘houseboat city’ as it is from here that many Keralan backwaters cruises commence and end. Chugging slowly on these vessels through the shallow, palm-fringed waters visitors see a part of Keralan society that revolves around fishing and the processing of coir (coconut fibre), copra (dried coconut meat) and cashews. We spend this evening enjoying the backwaters.
