Welcome to Israel and the start of your Biblical adventure. We’ll be there to meet you at airport and transfer you to our hotel in town.
A short drive brings us to Jaffa, an ancient port where we enjoy a walking tour of the picturesque fortified town, see the House of Simon the Tanner and marvel at the hilltop views. Continuing north along the coast we visit Caesarea, one of the great cities of antiquity and Megiddo, the location of many ancient battles and the city referred to in the book of Revelation as ‘Armageddon’. Here we explore the archaeological ruins before continuing to the Sea of Galilee and historic Tiberias, where Jesus lived and preached.
Today we visit Capernaum, an ancient fishing village and the centre of Jesus’ ministry. In Tabgha, the site where Christ miraculously fed the 5,000, we see the wonderful mosaic floor of the Church of Multiplication before continuing to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the ‘Sermon on the Mount’. Ascending to the rocky plateau of the Golan Heights we enjoy panoramic views of the rugged peaks of Mount Hermon with the green pastoral Huleh valley stretching out below.
First stop today is Cana to visit the Wedding Church where Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine. We continue on to Nazareth, the city where Jesus spent his childhood, where we visit the Church of Annunciation, Mary’s Well and Joseph’s Church. Passing through the Jordan Valley we reach Beit Shean and explore the excavations of this beautifully preserved Roman city, destroyed in an earthquake, before travelling on to Jerusalem.
Start the day with the spectacular panoramic views from Mt. Scopus before a stop at the Mount of Olives, the site where Jesus first gave the Lord’s Prayer. We visit the Garden of Gethsemane before heading to the Old City where we see the Western Wall, the Temple Mount, Via Dolorosa and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Just outside of the Old City is Mount Zion with the traditional tomb of King David and the Room of the Last Supper.
Today we discover new Jerusalem, starting with the official memorial site of Yad Vashem, a sprawling complex dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. After paying our respects we head to Ein Karem, a picturesque village where John the Baptist was born. Spend some time in the Israel Museum visiting the Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls, and a detailed model of Jerusalem from the time of the Second Temple. Passing the Knesset (House of Parliament) and the campus of the Hebrew University we make our way to Bethlehem where we visit Rachel’s Tomb and the Church of the Nativity.
An excursion today takes us to the remarkable scenery of the Dead Sea and Masada, a UNESCO-listed fortress situated on an isolated cliff in the Judean Desert. We ascend by cable car to the last stronghold of the Jewish Zealots in their war against the Romans. Here we visit the excavations of King Herod’s palace, the synagogue and bathhouse. The site also offers spectacular views of the Roman camps and the Dead Sea. We’ll also see the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered and enjoy floating on the salty, mineral-rich waters (weather permitting), before heading back to Jerusalem.
Early this morning you drive to Jericho and visit Tel Al-Sultan 'Old Jericho', the Spring of Elisha and Hisham's Palace. You then have a quick drive to the border with Jordan at Allenby Bridge -- Here you will make your own way through both Israel and Jordan immigration (Shuttle bus between 2 borders not included pay locally) After passing Jordan customs you will be greeted by our Jordan driver for the drive to Amman. Arriving in the evening relax at your hotel.
Heading north, we visit Jerash, the Graeco-Roman city known as the ‘Pompeii of the East’. Built over 2,000 years ago, Jerash is widely regarded as the best-preserved city of the Decapolis, a confederation of 10 Roman cities dating from the 1st century! We’ll explore the site taking in the colonnaded street, amphitheatre, nymphaeum, forum and more before continuing to Umm Qais (Gadara), a dramatic black-basalt Roman city of the Decapolis with panoramic views over the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights.
Today we depart the city and drive to visit Mt Nebo the single most important biblical site in Jordan. Having led the Israelites for 40 years through the wilderness, Moses finally saw, from this awesome vantage point, the Promised Land, that God forbid him to set foot in. Onward to Madaba we visit the Greek Orthodox Church of St George which has incredible 6th century Byzantine mosaics, depicting Jerusalem and other holy sites. Late afternoon visit to Shobak castle en route to Petra.
Get ready to be amazed! All but lost to the modern world until 1812, Petra is a real archaeological gem, full of ancient tombs and ruins ripe for the modern-day discoverer. We access Petra on horseback, through the mysterious mile-long Siq which leads to the spectacular façade of the Treasury (of Indiana Jones fame). This is just the beginning of a day filled with true adventure, where we’ll explore amazing sights such as the Street of Facades, the Theatre, Colonnaded Street and Qasr al Bint.
This morning you can opt to revisit Petra in your own time. Around noon we drive you to Aqaba on the Red Sea. Here, you will pass through customs in both Jordan and Israel. Arriving into the Israeli side (Eilat) our local driver awaits to transfer you to your hotel.
Early this morning we drive to Be'er Sheva. Enjoy the day exploring the area including Tel Beer Sheva Archeological Park, Abraham's Well, Old Turkish town and f interested in good city views the Negdev Memorial. The day concludes with a visit to the natural hot mineral water springs "Neve Midbar" we will drop you off for a soak in the water for around an hour then drive you to your hotel in Tel Aviv.
Sadly your journey concludes today, we will be sure to transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
