Today we driving north and visit the Roman ruins of Jerash. Recognised as one of the best-preserved member cities of the Decapolis, Jerash is deservedly one of Jordan’s major attractions. The traditional Roman street is very impressive and still boasts chariot ruts, the South Theatre boasts astonishing ancient amplification. Later on we drive back to Amman. Today we journey on the Kings Highway stopping at Madaba and Karak. Madaba - the most important Christian centre in Jordan, its mosaics, little shops and restaurants offers us gentle respite. A short distance away, we visit Mt Nebo. Sitting on the edge of the East Bank plateau, it is where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land. Indeed, from the lookout it is possible to view across the valleys to the Dead Sea, Jericho and - on a clear day - the golden cupulas and spires of Jerusalem. Arrive Petra Later this evening. Welcome to the Rose City! Access to the city on our guided exploration is through the famous narrow, deep siq. We depart Petra and drive to Wadi Rum. A vast, silent landscape of ancient riverbeds, pastel coloured stretches of sandy desert and amazing rock formations known as jebels, We’ll jump aboard open-top 4 x 4s for our sunny, sandy and scenic adventure into Jordan’s wilderness. Today we will discover the New Jerusalem, starting with the official memorial site of Yad Vashem, a sprawling complex dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. After paying our respects we head to Ein Karem, a picturesque village where John the Baptist was born. Spend some time in the Israel Museum visiting the Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls, and a detailed model of Jerusalem from the time of the Second Temple. Passing the Knesset (House of Parliament) and the campus of the Hebrew University we make our way to Bethlehem where we visit Rachel’s Tomb and the Church of the Nativity. Start the day with the spectacular panoramic views from Mt. Scopus before a stop at the Mount of Olives, the site where Jesus first gave the Lord’s Prayer. We visit the Garden of Gethsemane before we enter the Old City of Jerusalem, and visit the Western ("Wailing") Wall, remnant of the foundation of the Second Temple from the time of Jesus, and holiest site of Judaism. Tour the Southern Wall excavations and walk on the stairs where Jesus taught, that led into the Temple, Follow the Via Dolorosa ("Way of the Agonies") the path Jesus walked to the crucifixion, leading to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the traditional site of Calvary and Burial of Jesus. Continue to Mount Zion, where some traditions place King David's tomb and the Room of the Last Supper. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Grand Court Hotel
This morning we head out for another full day of sightseeing around the Holy Land. We take in the sights of Nazareth – the home of Joseph and Mary, visiting the famous Churches of the Annunciation and St. Joseph. Heading North via Cana – where Jesus turned water into wine, we reach the shores of the Sea of Galilee and visit the significant Christian sites of Capernaum, historic Tiberias and Tabgha - site of the legendary Sermon on the Mount and the feeding of the 5000. We travel back to Jerusalem where you can spend your final night soaking up the atmosphere of this revered city. Return to Jerusalem to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
