Welcome to Egypt and the start of your holiday! Arrive Cairo at midday. Flight out of Cairo straight to Luxor, where you will be met and transferre to your hotel. At over 4,000 years old, Luxor is a living museum!
The massive pair of statues known as the Colossi of Memnon are the first monuments you’ll see during our morning visit to the West Bank - home to the legendary Valley of the Kings. You’ll also see the colonnaded Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Return to Luxor for check-in on board our Nile 5 star cruiser. Lunch at leisure and time to relax until our early evening visit to the Temple of Luxor. Luxor Temple looks stunning at dusk and is beautifully illuminated at night. Cruisers only depart on Monday's, and Saturday's.
Later we tour the ancient city of Thebes (the East Bank), taking in the Temple of Luxor - built by Pharaoh Amenophis III and the magnificent Temple of Karnak. More than a temple, it’s a gigantic and stunning complex of sanctuaries and pylons dedicated to the Theban gods. Anchors away this afternoon as we sail downstream to Esna and the Temple of Horus at Edfu.
Relax as we sail the Nile. Later today, we visit the Temple of Kom Ombo. Arrive Aswan late evening.
Today, we enjoy a short boat trip to Agilika Island for Philae Temple - dedicated to the goddess Isis. The temple dates from 4th century BC but the Ptolomies and the Romans up to 3rd century AD built most of the existing structures. In danger of being completely submerged by the rising water of Lake Nasser, in 1972 UNESCO stepped in and an 8-year rescue effort was undertaken to relocate the entire temple 20m higher on nearby Agilika Island. After lunch, a visit to the High Dam and take a felucca cruise to Elephantine and Kitchener Island. As the sun sets, free time to shop in the colourful souqs and markets or simply relax and watch an amazing sunset in Egypt’s southern most town straddling the River Nile.
Today, we disembark our cruiser to enjoy an early morning air excursion to the Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel. Returning to Aswan, you will have some free time to perhaps do some shopping in the colourful souqs and markets or simply relax in this attractive town which straddles the River Nile.
Today, we transfer to the airport to fly to Cairo, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Today we tour the Pyramids at Giza Plateau. Gaze in awe at Cheops (Khufu) - the largest of the three great pyramids. Constructed from over 2.5 million limestone blocks, it is thought to have taken more than 20 years to construct. The other two - Chephren and Mycerinus are equally impressive. Afterward we tour the tomb-strewn necropolis of Saqqara, featuring King Zhoser’s step pyramid. Constructed by Imhotep, the pharaoh’s chief architect in 2700 BC, this was the template for all future pyramid construction.
This morning we venture to old Islamic and Coptic Cairo and the Egyptian Museum, home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. Arguably the most famous exhibit is the stunning solid gold funerary mask of the boy-King Tutankhamen. An entire gallery is devoted to the treasures unearthed by Howard Carter at Tutankhamen’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922.
Today, we transfer to the airport for your flight to Sharm el Sheikh, where you will be met and tranferred to Dahab, a small town located on the Red Sea. Dahab is our base for the coming days and there is plenty of free time to explore the Sinai – a region of incredible beauty. Dahab offers great diving, snorkelling, swimming and sun-worshipping possibilities.
Departure transfer to Sharm el Sheikh airport for your flight to Cairo then onto Amman, where you will be picked up and transferred to Petra.
After breakfast, spend the day with your private guide exploring the ancient Nabatean Rose City of Petra - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Petra by Night ticket only.
Morning at leisure to revisit Petra on your own before transferring back to Amman for your flight to Tel Aviv. FLIGHT AMMAN TO TEL AVIV BOOKED INDEPENDENTLY TO THIS TOUR. You will be met at the airport and transferred to Jerusalem.
Today we embark on a fully guided tour of Jerusalem, a World Heritage Listed city. From the Mount of Olives we enjoy panoramic views of the Old City and Temple Mount. Arriving at the Old City and Temple Mount we discover the Western (Wailing) Wall. The wall sits in the shadows of the Islamic faith’s stunning and incredibly beautiful golden Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque. On Temple Mount both faiths worship side by side in harmony. We walk the Via Dolorosa - the path which Jesus walked, bowed under the weight of the cross to the Church of Holy Sepulchre. Weaving through the labyrinth of alleys in the Armenian and Jewish Quarters, we arrive at Mt. Zion to view the Last Supper Room and King David’s Tomb. Later this afternoon we tour West Jerusalem including Parliament Hill.
