In the hot seat this edition is Kenan Potuk. Kenan is renowned for his depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for his native Turkey. Currently leading on the go tours, from Istanbul, through Western Turkey, Cappadocia and the Black Sea coast, Kenan is in his dream job. From ancient history to modern politics, art and religion, to restaurants and nightlife, Kenan has his finger on the true pulse of Turkey!

1) Develi Kabab House - Istanbul
The starters are from south east of Turkey, called Bulgar. You must use a good quality raw minced beef mixed with 15 different herbs and then add tomato, onion, garlic, bulgur wheat, and chilli of course. Then for mains it is the pistachio kebab - mince meat mixed with pistachios. No dessert – I’m watching my figure!

2) Hot Air Ballooning - Cappadocia style
The only way to see all Goreme and Cappadocia has to offer - the colours of the chimneys change as the sun rises going from shades of purple and red through to bright yellow. It’s terribly quiet and an eerie feeling to be floating above the sleepy fairy castles below.

3) Camping in at ‘ 7 lakes’ in the Black Sea region
- so many species of trees and hundreds of shades of green, so thick and dense. I also like fishing for trout here and then cooking it on the campfire.

4) Cruising the sunken Lycian ruins in Kekova - located on the Mediterranean Coast. You get to visit the surrounding islands including the remains of a Roman castle at Simena. You also get to see the Lycian sarcophagi - many are still clearly visible on top of hills, others just sticking out of the water or have sunken into the sea.

5) Traditional Oil wrestling
Particularly the annual competition that takes place in Edirne in the summer. Each year 50 - 60 wrestlers take part in a three-day competition which dates back more than 600 years. Traditional garb is worn consisting of bull-leather pants and competitors are covered in olive oil. It is a very exciting sport! (We suspect that this is how Kenan keeps in shape!)

During a winter tour we were blocked in a small village because of heavy snow. The village people took us into their homes and looked after us for 2 days. I was stressed about the situation but my customers loved the experience. The village people loved having us there and cooked their traditional local food for us all and really treated us like royalty by sacrificing a sheep for us and cooked roast lamb.

Losing out to Switzerland in the playoffs for the 2006 World Cup Finals!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Most people are probably aware that Turkey is a predominantly a Muslim country but most would not be aware that the 7 churches of the apocalypse are all in Turkey, the worlds 1st church was built in Turkey and St Nicholas (the original Santa Claus) lived here in Turkey.

Going to China with on the go!
