Welcome to Jordan! Today on arrival in Amman you will be transferred to the hotel to relax and get accustomed with your new surroundings!
TOday we tour Um Al-Jimal- a Nabatean, Roman and Bysantine caravan way station in Jordan's eastern Badis. We then continue on to Azraq Oasis to tour its Roman fortress- a traditional caravan stopping point the gloomy black-basalt Roman fortress is most striking. It was later used by T.E.Lawrence as a headquarter during the Arab Revolt of the early 20th Century. The oasis is also an important resting spot for flocks of birds which visit Azraq during their annual migration, making this a must-see for any bird enthusiast. We Finish the day by visiting the "Desert Castles" of Qasr Amra and Qasr Kharanah before we return to Amman for the evening.
This morning you drive to Petra for a full day of discovery!The day begins with a walk through the mysterious mile-long Siq, the narrow gorge with towering sandstone walls which leads into the ancient capital city of the Nabatean trading empire. Explore the Khazneh (the temple of Indiana Jones fame), Theater, Colonnaded Street and Museum. After lunch, climb to ad-Deir (the Monastery), Petra’s largest carved façade. In the evening, why not try your hand at our Petra Kitchen Enhancement to join fellow travelers for a cuisine course at the Petra Kitchen, where you’ll help prepare a memorable Jordanian feast.
Today is a free day to explore Petra at your own leisure! This afternoon we leave Petra and for Wadi Rum. A vast, silent landscape of ancient riverbeds, pastel coloured stretches of sandy desert and amazing rock formations known as jebels that rise from the desert floor, the desertscape of Wadi Rum represents some of the most stunning countryside on the planet. Boarding 4x4s jeeps, we take a safari through the sand dunes, getting up close and personal to the surrounding scenery of Wadi Rum. Tonight we share dinner with a local Bedouin family.
This morning after breakfast we continue our journey to Aquaba where we have free time to relax in the sun!
After more free time this morning we continue onto the Dead Sea. Sitting at 422 metres below sea level we spend the afternoon swimming, lathering up with a detoxifying mud bath and bobbing about in the ever warm mineral-rich body of water.
This morning we take a day trip to visit the town of Jerash before returning to the Dead Sea where our arrangements will end.
