This morning we visit Jerash, the world’s best-preserved Roman provincial city, built over 2,000 years ago. Here we visit the Forum, the arena, where the chariot wheel tracks can still be seen, the Temple of Artemis and the South Theatre. We continue to Umm Qais, a dramatic black-basalt Roman city with panoramic views over the Sea of Galilee. When ready we return to your hotel in Amman to relax for the evening.
Today, we tour the citadel, Archaeological Museum and enjoy free time in the local souq. When ready we will drive you to Dana Nature reserve. Arrival here and enjoy the spectacular scenery from the lodge veranda.
Today enjoy a full day with a specialist RSCN nature guide whom will take you on a hike into the reserve according to your level of fitness. Late afternoon we will transfer you to Petra. Welcome to the Rose City! Access to the city on our guided exploration is through the famous narrow, deep siq. The rocks then give way to the most amazing site – that of the Treasury. You will explore with our expert local gude the ancient Nabatean tombs and the Roman rock-carved streets lined with temples, royal tombs, staircases, arched gates, public buildings and more all depending on your level of interest/fitness.
This morning you have the option to revisit Petra in your own time (Entry ticket not included) before we drive you to Wadi Rum. Wadi Rum is a vast, silent landscape of ancient riverbeds, pastel coloured stretches of sandy desert and amazing eroded rock formations that rise from the desert floor. Enjoy an included 2 hour 4x4 drive to see the wilderness, alternately you can enhance this experience with one of our enhance your holiday options. Tonight we camp with the semi-nomadic Bedouin and enjoy a Jordanian dinner tonight.
Making our way back to civilisation today we drive to and visit the vast well preserved 12th century crusader castle of Al Karak. It took the Crusaders some twenty years to erect their fortified stronghold, which through the proceeding centuries withstood countless attack and siege. From here we drive to visit Bethany which is where Jesus is claimed to of been baptised on the Jordan river. We then drive 15 minutes or so to check into your hotel on the shores of the Dead Sea.
After a relaxing morning we venture off to visit Mt Nebo, where it is believed Moses viewed the Promised Land, you can too the views stretch as far as Israel from here, then on to Madaba which is renown for its mosaics including the stunning 6th century Byzantine mosaic map depicting Jerusalem and other holy sites, located at the Greek Orthodox Church of St George. Small shops sell excellent copies of miniature mosaics enjoy free time here before before we drive back to your hotel.
Enjoy a free day to swim in the Dead Sea and maybe indulge in a Treatment at the spa in your hotel. There are other optional activities you can do on this day, you just need to let us know whether you prefer to relax or see more of Jordan's many amazing highlights
