Upon arrival at Amman's Queen Alia airport you will be met and transferred directly to Madaba. Check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Famed for it’s Byzantine mosaics, including the fascinating map of the Holy Land made in the 6th century out of two million stone pieces and now housed in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, Madaba - the most important Christian centre in Jordan, its mosaics, little shops and restaurants offers us gentle respite. A short distance away, we visit Mt Nebo. Sitting on the edge of the East Bank plateau, it is where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land. Drive to Petra
Access to the rose red city on our guided exploration is through the famous narrow, deep siq. The rocks then give way to the most amazing site – that of the fantastically impressive Treasury. Walking down the gravel tracks, we’ll explore the ancient Nabatean tombs and the Roman rock-carved streets lined with temples, royal tombs and arched gates. The intrepid can ascend to Ad Deir, better known as the monastery.
This morning early we drive to Wadi Rum the moonscape terrain T. E. Lawrence rightly described as "vast, echoing and God-like." Here enjoy a 4x4 jeep tour of the vast landscape of ancient riverbeds, pastel coloured stretches of sandy desert and amazing rock formations known as jebels that rise from the desert floor, the desertscape of Wadi Rum represents some of the most stunning countryside on the planet. We then drive back to Petra.
Today we take a short drive to Little Petra and the Baidha Neolithic village, hidden away in the centre of a mountain. En route to the Dead Sea we tour Shobak, a 12th Century Crusader Castle, before proceeding to Madaba, to see the world’s largest collection of ancient mosaics. Continue on to Mt. Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land. Finally head to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on the earth’s surface.
