Welcome to Jordan and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours! We'll be there at the airport to greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Amman where you'll be able to check in straight away. Enjoy a morning to relax after your night flight before embarking on a guided afternoon tour of Jerash, the Graeco-Roman city known as the ‘Pompeii of the East’ and widely regarded as the best-preserved city of the Decapolis. We’ll explore the site taking in the colonnaded street, amphitheatre, nymphaeum, forum and more before returning to Amman for the night.
This morning we transfer to Petra for an afternoon of guided touring exploring this incredible ancient city. Access to the city is through the famous narrow, deep siq. The rocks then give way to the most amazing site – that of the fantastically impressive Treasury. Walking down the gravel tracks, we’ll explore the ancient Nabatean tombs and the Roman rock-carved streets lined with temples, royal tombs, staircases, arched gates, public buildings and the more intrepid can ascend to Ad Deir, better known as the monestery.
Today our touring of ancient Petra continues as we enter via the 'secret' route of Madras for a look at the decorated cave facades behind the Obelisk Tomb. The route climbs along the southern cliff of the Siq to arrive at a vantage point on the cliffside facing the Treasury from high above. The journey continues along the rugged mountains to the High Place of Sacrifice where the Nabatean altars, an obelisk and foundations of the priest’s house are still visible, as well as a splendid panoramic view of the Petra city centre below. Descend through Wadi Farasa and see the recently excavated Nabatean Villa and the Great Temple as you return to the centre of the ancient site.
Enjoy a free morning to revisit Petra as you choose. After lunch we leave the Rose City behind and transfer to Wadi Rum, a vast, silent landscape of ancient riverbeds, pastel coloured stretches of sandy desert and amazing rock formations known as jebels that rise from the desert floor. Boarding 4x4 jeeps, we take a safari through the sand dunes stopping off at interesting rock formations with time for Bedouin tea. Continue to our desert camp where you will enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner.
After breakfast at the campsite we leave the desert behind and transfer to the Dead Sea, descending some 1300 metres to the lowest point on the earth's surface. Spend the afternoon at leisure swimming, lathering up with a detoxifying mud bath and bobbing about in the ever-warm mineral-rich body of water.
Enjoy a leisurely morning at the Dead Sea before continuing the short distance to the bustling Muslim-Christian market town of Madaba. Madaba is famed for its Byzantine mosaics, including the fascinating map of the Holy Land made in the 6th century out of two million stone pieces and now housed in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure to explore independently.
The morning offers further free time in Madaba with time for lunch before transferring to Mt. Nebo, the single most important biblical site in Jordan where Moses first saw the Promised Land. Continue to Amman airport for your onward departure flight.
