This morning we will take you on a guided visit St Katherine's monastery which has existed in one form or another for at least 1600 years and is one of the oldest in the world. Within the city walls are one of the greatest collections of Christian works outside of the Vatican, pristine Coptic frescoes and a charnel house. Those who want can walk up a little bit of Mt Sinai. Later transfer to Nuewiba for your overnight stay.
Early morning you will catch the ferry to Aqaba. Arrival and we drive to visit Bethany which is where John the Baptist’s ministry and the Baptism of Jesus took place then on to Mt Nebo which is where moses saw the promised land and then Lot’s cave before our transfer to your Amman hotel.
This morning we drive to enjoy bathing at Ma'an waterfalls. We then head to Jerash the Graeco-Roman city known as the ‘Pompeii of the East’. Built over 2,000 years ago, Jerash is widely regarded as the best-preserved city of the Decapolis. Here we have an in depth tour before we return to our hotel for the evening.
This morning, we tour the citadel of Amman before our drive to Madaba. Here we visit some of the famous Mosaics in particular the map of the holy land. From here we drive onto and visit Machaeru and Umm ar rasas before our drive to Petra.
Welcome to the Rose City! Enjoy the day walking down the gravel tracks to explore the ancient Nabatean tombs and the Roman rock-carved streets lined with temples, royal tombs, staircases, arched gates, public buildings and more.
This morning, we explore the vast well preserved 12th century crusader castle of Al Karak. It took the Crusaders some twenty years to erect their fortified stronghold, which through the proceeding centuries withstood countless attack and siege. Once finished in 1161, it became the residence of the lord of Transjordan, by then the most important fief of the Crusader kingdom, rich in produce and tax revenues. When complete we return transfer to Madaba which is close to the airport in preparation for your flight tomorrow morning.
