Welcome to Morocco and the start of your journey through the Land of the Berbers! Arriving into the airport, you will see our friendly local team waiting to transfer you to your riad, situated in the heart of Old Marrakech.
This morning enjoy a guided tour of Marrakech taking in all of the main attractions including the palace and Koutoubia mosque. This afternoon is free for you to wander around the bustling souks or simply relax.
It's an early start today when the transportation and your mountain guide collects you from the hotel. Drive from the flat plain of Haouz, the route climbs southwards and up to the passes of the High Atlas mountains. Along twisty roads with marvelous views and over the high point before descending to the rocky red foothills. En route to our hotel we visit Ait Benhaddou, an ancient fortified city, boasting beautiful examples of Kasbahs, some of which remain inhabited today. Granted UNESCO World Heritage Listing, the site has been the setting for many films including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.
The drive continues onwards down the valley of the Draa and past the abundant palm trees. We will visit Zagora and the Coranic library, potteries and cave dwellings nearby before heading to Mhamid where you will meet your camel team for a night at a remote desert camp in the Zagora region of the Sahara Desert.
Enjoy an early start to see the sun rise over the dunes. The tour then continues along the Draa palmeries and up to Agdz before continuing onto Ouarzazate. We then head past Skoura to the scenic Valley Du Dades where you can either head out on a scenic hike or relax at your hotel.
This morning we will drive to the Todra Gorge where we spend time stretching our legs on a scenic hike. Then head off towards the Sarhro mountains and the first signs of the Sahara. Along the route there are Khettara, the ancient wells dug by the nomads to find water, now dry. Finally we reach Merzouga at the foot of the great sand dune Erg Chebbi. Time to watch the sun set and the sand change colour as night falls. Spend the night in a traditional Auberge.
Take a long but very scenic drive today to Fes. Heading north from the desert and up into the High Atlas past the Ziz Gorge and Midelt, the route crosses a grassy plain (in winter) where Nomads of the tribe Ait Atta Tafoukht can be seen pitching their tents and finding grazing for their camels and goats. The road carries on over the next set of mountains – the Middle Atlas and another facet of Morocco is seen, the Cedar forests. Ancient forests that cloak the hills and are inhabited by monkeys, wild boar and deer.
Enjoy a guided tour around the fascinating old city of Fes, visiting the ancient medina, tanneries, palaces, gardens and bustling souks. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure.
Spend a day at leisure in Fes to see the souks and sights of the city. There are plenty of mosques and palaces to visit and looking down on the old quarter from the surrounding hills is quite an experience.
Today we drive to Meknes, stopping along the way to explore the sacred town of Moulay Idriss and to see the ruins of the Roman city of Volubilis.
Explore the Medina and walls of Meknes in the morning before heading off to Rabat and a chance to visit the Chellah and Hassan II tower in the evening her in the capital city of Morocco.
