Spend the morning in Tangiers, exploring the souks and beaches. In the afternoon, head off along the Mediterranean coast to Chefchaouen, the “blue” city in the Rif Mountains - a haven of tranquility and peace. Today enjoy a day tour to the imperial city of Meknes and also we visit the Roman ruins at Volubilis, the largest ancient site of Morocco. UNESCO-listed, the site dates back to AD40 and once ruled the entire Roman province of Mauritania. Overnight Royal Mirage Fes.
Today we travel over the High Atlas to merzouga at edge of Sahara dunes to our simple accomodation for the evening. Overnight Kasbah Toureg Merzouga.
This mornng free time to explore the dunes before we move on to Todra Gorge. This 1000ft gorge is hemmed in on all sides by vertical limestone cliffs and is also called Morocco’s Grand Canyon. Arriving this evening explore the Gorge from its plunging depths to dizzying heights. The charm of Todra lies in its changing colours as the sun slowly moves from east to west.
We continue on to Ouarzazate, along the Valley of the Roses. Sitting at an altitude of 1160 metres in the middle of a barren plateau, Ouarzazate lies at the cross roads of all routes going north, south, east, and west. Capital of a large province, the towns' northern limits run along the southern aspect of the High Atlas and its southern boundary disappears back into the ever present and mysterious Saharan Desert. Today, the area is still essentially populated by Berber people, who were constructors of the numerous fortified kasbahs and dwellings for which the region is famous.
Departing Ouarzazate we journey to Marrakech over the High Atlas after seeing the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou and the remainder of the day is free.
This morning enjoy a guided tour of Marrakech, taking in all of the main attractions including the palace and the outside of Koutoubia mosque. This afternoon is free for you to wander around the bustling souks or simply relax.
Leaving this morning for the approx. 2.5 hour transfer across the plains surrounding Marrakech to the Argan orchards and scrub maquis-type vegetation around Essaouira. The colourful fishing town of Essaouira is perfect for some beachside fun and relaxation. Spend the afternoon exploring the charming medina or simply lazing on the beach. This morning you'll be transferred to Casablanca along the Atlantic coast, passing long beaches, small fishing villages, Safi and Al Jadida. Upon arrival in Casablanca there is a chance to see the exterior of the Hassan II mosque and explore the city independantly in the evening.
