Welcome to Morocco and the start of your journey to explore the enchanting land of the Berbers! Upon arrival in Marrakech airport you will be met by the On the Go representative and transferred to your hotel in the centre of town. Meet your guide for a tour briefing and then spend the rest of the day at leisure.
This morning enjoy a guided tour or Marrakech, taking in all of the highlights of the Medina (old city centre) - the Koutoubia Mosque, palaces, souks and the old mellah (Jewish quartier). In the afternoon enjoy free time, perhaps a visit to the peaceful Jardins de Majorelle to relax is in order.
Today we travel to Rabat, stopping en route to visit Casablanca and the see the exterior of Hassan 2 Mosque, which has the tallest minaret and is the third largest mosque in the world - it can hold 25,000 worshippers at any one time. There is an optional visit inside the mosque for those who would like to explore further. Continuing on, we spend the afternoon and evening in Morocco’s capital city Rabat and visit some of the highlights of Rabat, including the impressive Chellah - a necropolis and complex of ancient, medieval ruins.
Today we travel up the scenic moroccan coastline along the way taking time to see the Atlantic harbours of Asilah, and visit the Caves of Hercules before reaching Tangiers where you can relax for the later afternoon/evening.
Enjoy the morning to explore the city of Tangier. Leaving Tangier heading into the mountains to Chefchaouen. This town, founded in 1471, was very isolated until the early 20th century. High up in the Rif mountains, Chefchaouen is painted in lovely shades of blue, legacy of the Jewish population that lived there.
Enjoy a morning leisure in Chefchaouen, a haven of peace and tranquility. Discover the medina of Chefchaouen, the silk and wool weaving quarter, the main square with its cafes, and the souks. Perhaps barter for a kilim in the market, where you can get some great deals! Travelling on to Fes today, we stop at the the incredible UNESCO listed Roman ruins of Volubilis, which date back to AD40. Reaching the Imperial City of Fes late this afternoon the evening is free for you to relax or explore.
Fes is the oldest and largest medieval city in the world and its medina is a cacophony of aromas, sights and sounds. Today we enjoy a morning guided tour of Fes el Bali - the old walled city and visit the dye-pits, tanneries before returning to our hotel and the afternoon is then at your leisure to explore or relax.
This morning we journey over the Moyen Atlas, which is a beautiful alpine area. Surrounded by huge pine trees, this tranquil mountain setting is a great spot to cool down and relax after the hustle and bustle of Fes. After passing the High Atlas, descend to the Sahara desert at Merzouga and meet the camel team for a short trek into the dunes.
Leaving the desert, we travel on to Todra Gorge. This 1000ft gorge is surrounded by towering vertical limestone cliffs and is known as Morocco’s Grand Canyon. The charm of Todra lies in its changing colours as the sun slowly moves from east to west. There’s time to explore the gorge before we continue on to Ouarzazate.
This morning explore Ait Benhaddou, an incredible ancient fortified kasbah which has featured in many a blockbuster movie, including Gladiator and Laurence of Arabia. After, enjoy travelling past the saffron fields near Tineghrir and onwards to Taroudannt. (OVERNIGHT AT THE Riad Dar Tourkia)
Today sees the journey continue to Agadir where you can enjoy a brief stop then driving past the banana plantations near the coast, then heading through the Argan orchards where if you like it is possible to visit an Argan oil cooperative to see how the argan nuts from all the forests are converted into oils and soaps, we arrive into Essaouira. Free time in Essaouira to windsurf, relax on the beach or see the medina and the ramparts of the town. Perhaps take a camel ride! We recommend the tasty sea food restaurants around the harbour for a spot of evening dining in beautiful surroundings. (OVERNIGHT AT THE Riad Thais)
Today morning, midday or late afternoon our driver will take you back to Marrakech.
