Welcome to Morocco and the start of your exclusive journey through the land of the Berbers! Arrive Marrakech, and you will see our local team waiting to transfer you to your centrally located hotel or riad where you will be briefed about tour. This evening consider heading to Djemaa el Fna - the cities UNESCO listed bustling medina. Best seen at night, this central square is an absolute feast for the senses, overflowing with stalls, fortune tellers, snake charmers and musicians. It's like stepping into another world!
This morning enjoy a guided tour of Marrakech, taking in all of the main attractions including the palace and Koutoubia mosque. This afternoon will be taken to a Riad and enjoy a cooking experience. This starts with a visit to the markets to shop for produce then heading back, the chef will show you all about Moroccan cooking. Afterwards, enjoy what you have cooked.
Leaving this morning for the 2.5 hour transfer across the plains surrounding Marrakech to the Argan orchards and scrub maquis-type vegetation around Essaouira. Along the way we will stop to visit a womans cooperative of Argan oil production. Arriving in the colourful fishing town of Essaouira you will see it allows a gentle respite from bustle of Marrakech.
Spend the day exploring the town with its very arty feel and abundant galleries, discover the old medina and the ramparts of the town. We recommend the tasty sea food restaurants around the harbour for a spot of evening dining in beautiful surroundings.
This morning we transfer to the town of Oualidia which is famous to birdwatchers around the world due it being a coastal wetland, a haven for both migrating and resident water birds especially a whole host of waders, egrets and herons. Today enjoy a boat trip in the lagoon to see the incredible array of brids. (Overnight in Oualidia - Hippocampe Hotel)
After heading out for bird watching this morning early you'll be transferred to Casablanca, driving along the Atlantic coast, passing long beaches, small fishing villages and we can stop to wander around Al Jadida. Upon arrival in Casablanca there is a chance to see the Hassan II mosque and explore the city in the evening.
We will spend the morning in Morocco’s capital city Rabat to visit Oudaia Kasbah, Hassan tower, the Royal Palace and Chellah. After lunch we will move on to the third of our Imperial cities Meknes to enjoy some free time.
After breakfast, we’ll embark on a tour of the Roman ruins at Volubilis, the largest ancient site of Morocco. UNESCO-listed, the site dates back to AD40 and once ruled the entire Roman province of Mauritania. We’ll then head on to Fes, arriving in the later afternoon.
Enjoy a guided tour around the fascinating old city, visiting the ancient medina, tanneries, palaces, gardens and bustling souks. There are plenty of mosques and palaces to visit in your free time this afternoon and looking down on the old quarter from the surrounding hills is quite an experience.
This morning we journey over the Moyen Atlas to stop at Midelt. This is a beautiful alpine area. Surrounded by huge pine trees and a tranquil mountain setting, this is a great spot to cool down and relax after the hustle and bustle of Fes.
Today enjoy a full day hiking in the hills and ceder forests of Midelt. You are certain to see the wild resident monkeys and abundant bird life as you spend a day in these wonderful natural surroundings!
Today we embark on a scenic drive followed by a tasty Moroccan lunch and an afternoon relaxing and swimming. Then we head out to towards the the Erg Chebbi dunes located near the remote frontier town of Merzouga. The dunes are renowned for their incredible height and size. In parts the vast sand pile reaches skyward to heights of 150 metres! Transferring to our camels we trek into the Sahara for a night at our Berber Camp. Tonight enjoy a local meal, music and an amazing night out under the Saharan stars.
Leaving the desert, we move on to Todra Gorge. This 1000ft gorge is hemmed in on all sides by vertical limestone cliffs and is also called Morocco’s Grand Canyon. We will have an early lunch at the village co-operative where you can see and buy authentic, Berber handmade rugs, kilims and carpets. The afternoon can be spent exploring the Gorge, walking through the palmerie or if you’re feeling adventurous, there is the option to rock climb.
Leaving the impressive Todra Gorge we continue our journey to Ait Benhaddou, stopping en route in Ouarzazate for lunch and the opportunity to tour its famous film studio. After lunch we tour the famous Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, where Lawrence of Arabia was once filmed.
This morning we return to Marrakech. Arriving in the afternoon relax at your hotel. (OVERNIGHT RIAD MADINI)
