Africa
Even though we travel over fairly large distances in Africa the climate does not change significantly. In East Africa the year is divided into the “short” rains (November) and the “long” rains (March to May). The “rains” usually last for one or two hours each day followed by sunny weather. In Southern Africa the “dry” season is April to October and the “wet” season is November to March. Although at night temperatures can be very cold the days are usually hot.

China China is a northern hemisphere destination. Broadly speaking, China experiences hot summers from late May to August in most parts of the country with great humidity in the south. September and October is warm to hot and dry across most of the country and it is during this time that China experiences increased visitor numbers.
Winters (November - March), meanwhile, vary from one geographical location to the next. Northern China (i.e. Beijing and north) experience freezing cold winters, whilst Central China (along the Yangtze) has a short, cold winter. In the very south of China, winters are very warm.
Come April and May, conditions in the north are cool and dry — just perfect conditions for sightseeing, however April can signal the arrival of sandstorms in Beijing and Inner Mongolia.
Down south, it's warm to hot and humid again with showers. In what are traditionally the northern hemisphere summer months, China can be hot and wet from June to August, though still enjoyable all the same. In all, China has a great diversity of climates. |

Croatia Croatia is a northern hemisphere destination with Mediterranean and continental climatic conditions. The continental climate is predominant with hot summers and cold winters. Along the Adriatic coast, dry summers are experienced with mild winters. Our cruises operate during the Croatian summer, when temperatures are generally high (particularly from June through September), so pack sunscreen and a hat, as the sun can be strong. |

Egypt Temperatures in Egypt are generally high during the summer months from May to September, so take sunscreen. In Cairo and the Nile Delta region, winter (October to February) can be cooler - so take a jacket for the cooler evenings. The south remains warm during this time but again, temperatures do drop in the evenings. Travellers embarking on our felucca cruise are advised to pack a sleeping bag for additional warmth as temperatures anytime of the year do fall at night. Rainfall is negligible except on the coast. |

India India is so vast a country that the climatic conditions in the far north bear little relation to those in the extreme south. However, in simple terms, India has a three-season year known as the hot, the wet and the cool. The coolest time to visit is late-September through April. Following this period is the hot season that runs from around April through July. July signals the start of the monsoon or wet season that continues until around the end September. Although the weather is humid, the days are punctuated by intermittent rainfall. |

Nepal, Tibet & Bhutan
Nepal June to September is monsoon season, during these months it is very hot and rains almost every day. October to November is much drier with pleasant temperatures in the daytime and good visibility - perfect for trekking. Winter - December to February tends to be mild in the daytime but can become very cold at night especially in the mountains. January is the coldest month of the year. March to May is very warm, with occasional showers. The annual temperatures peak in May just before the monsoons begin.
Tibet Weather conditions vary greatly in different regions of Tibet. Central Tibet is generally mild from April to November, making it the best time to visit. Due to the high altitude it is rarely scorching, but the suns rays are very strong. From December to February/March it becomes very cold and temperatures regularly drop below freezing, travel during these months is not advisable. Tibet does not have a typical monsoon season, but May to September are the months with the highest rainfall (which mostly occurs in the evenings).
Bhutan The monsoons in Bhutan are from June to September with heavy rains and high humidity, it is hottest in the south. Autumn from October to November is generally sunny with some snow at higher elevations. Late November to early March can become very cold with frosts throughout much of the country. Late March to April is very dry with pre monsoon showers starting in May. |

Russia Summer days from mid-May to early September are warm and very long. At midsummer in St Petersburg there is no real darkness. Autumn is brief, and by the end of November, winter sets in, bringing with it lots of snow and extremely low temperatures. Spring arrives with a vengeance, heralding the great thaw, in late March and April. Pack very warm clothes if arriving in winter, as temperatures between end November through end February plummet to below zero degrees Celsius. |

South America As South America spans from the Equator to the Polar region, broadly speaking you may encounter anything from the tropical humidity of Ecuador right through to the icy conditions of Tierra Del Fuego and the Antarctic. Additionally, the climate is also affected by your altitude. If you are visiting the Ecuador and Peruvian Andes and/or the Bolivian Altiplano expect things to be chilly with bouts of rain and sun - please pack to cover all manner of conditions. The lower coastal regions of Ecuador and the Galapagos, as well as the Amazon, are more tropical in nature so will be warmer and stickier. The coastal Peruvian towns south of Lima towards Arequipa possess a dry warm climate so are more Mediterranean in feel — however clear nights can still be cold. Summer is from December to February and winter is from June to August. |

Mongolia The high central Asian mountain ranges surrounding Mongolia on practically all sides, form a formidable barrier against the humid masses of air moving from the Atlantic and the Pacific, thus establishing the dominance of a continental climate in Mongolia. The warmest time to visit is between late June and early September when temperatures can be warm to even fiercely hot. Autumn is brief, and by the end of October, extremely low temperatures arrive. January is the coldest month. Indeed, Ulaan Baatar is the coldest capital in the world; however, Mongolia is a remarkably sunny country, enjoying 250 sunny days a year, often with clear, cloudless skies. Snow and rainfalls are low as the climate is arid. However, enough rain usually falls in July and August to swell rivers. Snow, if any falls generally during December - February. |

Sri Lanka Situated in the Indian Ocean, at the base of the Indian Sub-Continent, the island nation of Sri Lanka has a pleasant tropical climate and despite its two short monsoon seasons has no ‘off-season’ as such.
The average temperature of the lowlands ranges between 25-30 degrees C, with higher temperatures in April.
The hill country is particularly popular at this time of the year where temperatures can be 5 to 8 degrees cooler during the day, yet rather chilly at night.
The two monsoons are the south-west from May to July, affecting south/west/central areas and the north-east from September to November, affecting north/east areas.
Despite intermittent rain, the sun does shine and the days are warm, unlike the partnering of rain and cold weather in Europe. |
