 Taj Mahal, Agra, India -  at dusk

I visited the Taj Mahal at dusk. After exploring for about an hour, a sandstorm blew over and virtually all of the other visitors left or took shelter. I remained outside, covered my face and head with my scarf and continued staring in awe, taking the most amazing, surreal pictures.  It is a truly beautiful monument made even more so by enjoying it almost completely alone and under the shroud of a million particles of sand.

On a recent journey on the Trans-Siberian I had the opportunity to stay with a Nomadic family in Mongolia.  I have great memories of simply sitting inside the Ger (the felt tent that is their portable home) and drinking fermented mare’s milk with the family. It was warm and cosy inside, surprisingly well furnished and even though the mare’s milk is an acquired taste, it was such a great experience to be communing with people who are still living such a traditional nomadic existence. Truly memorable!
