1. When and how should I book my tour? Russia is a destination that offers appeal all year round. Certainly summer is a drawcard for many travellers. Devoid of snow-covered landscapes, Russia positively blooms in spring and summer. Curiously, Russia is positively hot in peak summer with temperatures that would rival those in the Mediterranean. Winter in Russia is the real deal. Popular departures dates coincide with Christmas/New Year, Easter, Bank, National and school holidays, so book early to guarantee your place. Flight availability is particularly sought after during these periods so source your flights and book your place soon early. |

3. What are the overnight trains like?
Russian trains are solid, utilitarian and reliable. All our passengers are reserved in mixed-sex 4-berth sleeper cabins. You’ll have your own cosy berth complete with fresh-laundered linen provided (except Trans-Siberian Train Service) and a place to stash your luggage. Though not air conditioned, trains are indeed heated during the winter season. Letting the train take the strain is the most comfortable way to achieve distances that would otherwise entail a somewhat unenlightened drive with little legroom. (All our tours include a relaxing overnight journey by train)
Moscow Metro The Moscow Metro is the easiest and quickest way to get around and your tour will include a Moscow Metro travelcard (for 6 journeys/rides). Riding the Moscow Metro is a sightseeing excursion in itself! Meanwhile, although St Petersburg has an equally fine Metro transportation system, as the city is more walker-friendly you’ll be able to get to most inner-city sights often without the need to board the Metro.
SPECIAL NOTE: Mind your purses and bags aboard the Metro. Pickpockets are as prevalent here as elsewhere. |
