If you’re after luxury then Russia won’t disappoint, offering some fantastic heritage hotels with grand architectural features. Moscow offers some fine luxury hotels dotted around Red Square such as Hotel National and Metropol and St Petersburg boasts the luxurious Grand Hotel Europe located right on Nevsky Prospekt. The demand for good quality hotels often outweighs the supply and this is very often reflected in the price. However, there are also some extremely well located and perfectly functional 3 and 4 star hotels in both cities which will be distinctly Soviet looking but far more reasonably priced. Once out of the major cities you can expect hotels to take on a more provincial and rustic feel. Since hotel grading in Russia may differ to what one expects as the standard in the West, on all tailor-made quotations, we will provide Western standard hotel ratings for all hotels featured.

Pricing Guidelines for Private Holidays in Russia

Prices can vary considerably for tailor-made travel as the quality of hotels, places visited and time of travel is entirely up to you. In addition, you may choose to have a private guide to escort your right through your holiday in Russia, or simply have the services of local Russian guides at each port of call. Prices also vary by the number of people in your travelling party, as fixed costs like transportation and guiding are shared across each group. For an indication of the sorts of prices to expect for a private holiday in Russia, please have a look at some of the Private Journeys featured on our website. These are based on two people travelling, sharing a twin/double room.

Getting around Russia whilst on holiday

• Road Travel: Airport transfers and road travel at each port of call will be in our own chauffeur driven, private air-conditioned cars, minivans and coaches all of a modern European standard.
• Air Travel: In Russia local flights are a quick and easy way to get around and we can arrange all internal flights which are normally on scheduled services with local airlines.
• Train Travel: Trains are a comfortable and cost effective mode of transport offering 4-berth air conditioned cabins during the day and sleeper cabins by night.  Overnight cabins are fitted with bunk beds, linen, air conditioning, heating and western bathrooms.  Trains travel right across Russia and for those with more time there is the luxury Eagle Express two week train journey from Moscow to Vladivostok.
• River Cruising: Luxury 5 star river cruising along the Volga River from St Petersburg to Moscow is a very popular way to experience Russia and typically forms part of a longer 
• Living it Local: To add a bit of flavour to your travels wander through the local markets, visit an underground soviet bunker, enjoy some trekking, diving, biking or horse-riding in Olkhon Island or even fly to the boundaries of space in a MIG-29 or MIG31.
